Hello,

Anyone recommend any good parenting books?

My baby is 5 months.

I want to raise him (or try my best to!) as a happy and intelligent child.

I’m not much of a talker and quite shy by nature and I first time mum, so I feel like I could benefit from tips eg when to introduce please and thank you’s, how to encourage language development, interest in maths and science etc!

Thank you!

For language development just talk, sing and read books. When he is talking give him a chance to reply by leaving space and can offer choices eg would you like an apple or a banana? For maths just naturally mentioning number eg let’s count the number of buttons on your cardi, steps on the stairs and name shapes just in conversation. For science just let him explore other textures for now, play with water and gloop and generally experiment as he gets older - ask questions he can explore eg do you think the stone will sink or float. As he gets older take him to different places and chat eg oh look the bees are collecting nectar to make honey to eat and answer all the ‘whys’ he can ask.

I have not come across a book which fulfils what you are asking for.
