Baby cold remedies?

tiredmumsclub88 · 04/12/2017 07:42

DS (13 weeks-9 corrected) has woken with a cold. Very sneezy and snuggly & struggling a little with breathing. Does anyone have any tried & tester remedies beyond calpol & nasal drops?
TIA xx

We used snufflebabe vapour with my DS (17 weeks) last night and it helped. He managed to sleep lying down although we had to redo it twice through the night and I held him upright while we made it up. (Certainly beats the 4 hours I held him upright the night before though)

I tried a nasal aspirator and it was rubbish, I hear it works better if you ahem do that bit yourself (but I appreciate that’s really gross)

The calpol plug in is a bit pricey but it works wonders for my 2

Raise the head of the cot onto books slightly, if you have a hot shower let baby breathe in the steam.
Hope ds feels better soon.

We found the aspirator quite good, but my girls HATE it. It honestly sounds like we're chopping off a limb when we're doing it. I haven't tried 'mother's kiss' but this apparently works brilliantly. You blow in to their mouths and it come out heir nose.

Raise the head of the cot. We place a couple of books under the legs.

Humidifier (with vapour drops in if you have them)

Snuffle babe on chest (not sure what age you can use it from so best check), and feet if coughing.

Saline drops

Calpol

Agree with the steam from the shower. Shut the door and window then keep the shower running for about 20 mins. Change clothes after as you will both be damp.

Humidifiers are great. I've used ours (bought for baby) just for me at times
