Night feeding my newborn

Hi, new to this forum so apologies if this isn’t posted in the right place.

I want other mums advice on night feeds for my newborn. All the advice on the boxes of formula feed say to boil the kettle and let the water cool for no longer than 30 mins before adding the formula and water and feeding baby.

But this is so unrealistic when baby is crying at night for milk.

Iv read about boiling the water and prepping all the night bottles ahead of time and either keeping them at room temperature or refrigerated and then using them as required.

This obviously suits better than the first option.

What’s your thoughts?

We mainly did the fridge option. Which I know is no longer the recommended option.

We also sometimes had the pre made bottles. So I could have a sterilised bottle next to the bed and them just open a bottle once needed.

Boil some water and put it in the fridge during the day. Make the bottle up with the full amount of powder and about half boiling water then add cooled boiled water to fill. Safest and quickest way I found.

Sorry if that's not clear... Make the bottle up "to order". Takes less than 2 mins if the kettle isn't full.

Aptimil, for example, is available in big bottles you can store in the fridge and just put into baby's bottle what you need for each feed. That would save fannying around with boiling water.

What smileygrapefruit said. For a 7oz bottle, boil kettle and pour 5oz water into the bottle. Allow to cool and then chill in the fridge. Whe you need to make up the bottle, 2oz freshly boiled water, add powder, shake & top up with the 5oz from the fridge. Cooled boiled water is fine, you just need enough freshly boiled water onto the powder to dissolve it & kill any potential bacteria.

Tommy tippee perfect prep machine changed my life for night feeds!!! If you can afford it best thing ever. Got mines for around £50 (asda I think?) It makes bottles at the correct temperature in 1 min xx

Thanks for all the replies, we have a perfect prep machine but this question was for when we were staying at our parents, which we do regularly.

I like the sound of putting the majority of boiled water in the fridge ahead of time, then making up a small anount of boiled water, and adding the formula along with the pre made cooler fridge water.

We have a thermos that we keep boiled water in and check with a thermometer as it cools. Also keep cold water in the fridge that we dunk the hot bottle of formula into. Usually takes about 3 mins to cool.

I used to take the perfect prep with me when staying at parents even though he wasn't having that many feeds (switched to formula around 8 months so was eating solid food)...could you do that? DS used to like a 5am bottle and we weren't massively fond of faffing about with a kettle at that time.

I would take the perfect prep with you if away over night. A friend did that when she came to stay with her DS. We now have a baby and if we were to go away I would take it.

If you have a perfect prep i would honestly take it with you! We take ours upstairs with us every night and just put the powder in the bottles ready.

Netflix I totally agree, I always said I'd have bought a second if we'd FF for longer dor upstairs!
