Anyone else in the midst of pnd and fancy a bit of solidarity?

I had really severe pnd (mostly anxiety) after DD(4) was born. DS was born a week ago and I can feel myself going back down the rabbit hole.
I've been really proactive this time, already started on the tablets and organised some counselling. I really don't want to put lovely DH through this again, not to mention my DD.
Is there anyone else out there in the internets who's going through pnd at the moment, with any age child? It'd be nice to talk, so as to not feel so alone.

You're doing really well by grabbing the bull by the horns this time round. I'm hopeful for you that it will not be as bad as you fear this time because you've started on the tablets straight away.
My baby days are far behind me, but just wanted to let you know that somebody is listening xx

Thanks Simi. I know it might just be post-birth hormones, and not turn into full blown depression, but it makes me feel more in control to be proactive about it. I'm lucky that I have lovely, supportive friends and DH, but there's no real substitute for people who've been there and get it!

Hi, just want to let you know you're not alone. I've been battling PND on and off for a while (DD now 2). I had awful anxiety as well the first year then started Sertaline and felt much better.

I've just upped my Sertraline dose as feeling really low and stressed. Everything feels like a big effort, can't sleep and I've lost interest in things. But I'm confident the Sertraline will help again, last time it was like magic!

Which meds are you on? What things make you feel better?

Hi Suntrapped, thanks for your response. I'm on citalopram. I've been taking it for just over a week now and so far I feel awful. Terrible anxiety, dry mouth, tense jaw and diahorrea. And I'm exhausted, which I could ship do without with a newborn! Did you have side effects when you started the ssris? The doc told me it would take around 2 weeks to start to have an effect, but she also said that the only side effect I was likely to experience was nausea!

Hi LadyN Was wondering how you're getting on? Then saw your update about citalopram. Your doctor may want you to persevere for a while - it's normally recommended that you take antidepressants for 3 to 4 weeks to see if they'll help. Prozac (took it years ago) gave me terrible diarrhoea!
I would go back to your doctor and ask if you could either try an alternative (scroll to the bottom of the NHS link that follows for some suggestions) or take something in addition to counteract the side effects.
Good luck xx
