Should I take my 4 month old to a family party?

I have a family party next week and I am thinking of taking my 4 month old. I'm sure when she has had enough I can put her down to sleep in her pram but I'm worried that the music will be too loud for her ears etc and/or she will get upset. It's not really her bedtime that's a concern because one night or something different won't do her any harm but has anyone else experienced this and what did they do to keep baby happy?

Depends on the sort of party really... a live band is certainly too loud for a baby although I've known plenty of people to successfully take babies to see live music with ear defenders on.

It will be a bit like a wedding reception kind of party, for a wedding anniversary. So it won't be live band music, just a DJ.

My 7 month old falls asleep with very loud music we learned this on a caravan holiday at the disco thing when we was tiny. Still works.

We were taking DS to music festivals at 3 months!
We discovered he would fall asleep, even at the loudest of gigs, so long as had his ear defenders on!

Plus it's meant we can get away with putting on loudish parties and I'll know he'll sleep through, thanks to all the training! Wink

Get good baby ear defenders, and make sure there is something safe to put them down on (or carry in a sling like I did!) and you'll be absolutely fine!

Has your baby been invited or is the party adults only?

She has been invited. Do I need ear defenders if it's just a disco? It's not Glastonbury or anything?!

Depends on what you think your family will do!
If its a proper professional disco, or they have a big sound system (like we do!) then I would have them to hand, as they can be quite loud for little, sensitive ears.

If its an Ipod and some speakers then nah, I wouldn't bother with defenders!

I would get ear defenders. Can't hurt to have them, better safe than sorry. Discos can be very loud too.

Ok I will get some just in case, it can't hurt!

Plus a decent set of ear defenders are a good investment.

We had these <a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/Banz-Mini-Earmuffs-Months-Blue-x/dp/B007BEHSDU/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1492862295&sr=8-3&keywords=baby%20ear%20defenders&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">Banz Ear Defenders

They are good quality, are only £15, and lasted for at least 2 years of lots of wear and tear.
