Swimming

I'm taking my six month old DS swimming for the first time next week and I'm a bit confused as to how the swim nappies work. I've got him a full body wet suit and he'll be wearing Huggies swim nappies underneath that, but to my knowledge they don't absorb wee (which makes sense otherwise they'd be sucking up all the pool water!) so I'm just wondering if there's anything else he needs to wear to prevent wee leaking out into the pool, or is that just something that everybody expects to happen? Sorry if this is a really dumb question but I'm terrified of getting into the pool with him and quickly being surrounded by yellow water Blush Grin

I take my 8 month DD swimming and she wears Huggies swimmer nappies then a happy nappy on top followed by a wetsuit.

JoJo sells them

Yes the wee just leaks out! That is what is supposed to happen I'm afraid.

We always had to double nappy for swim classes - ie a disposable swim nappy with a neoprene one on top (happy nappy/neo nappy). If using a wetsuit that's an additional layer on top of the neoprene nappy.
There's still a water flow through the neopreme but I think they hold some of it in? They definitely hold poo in though - which disposable ones on their own won't do!

The wee just leaks out. I would always double nappy though (disposable and happy nappy) as the disposables aren't brilliant at containing poo and the neoprene nappy will make a tight seal at tummy and thighs to prevent leakages. You really don't want to be the one that gets the pool closed down!

The pool filtration system and chlorine will deal with wee (which from a healthy person is sterile). So really you only really need to worry about poo.

I have never had a poo leak from a disposable one or the reusable ones we bought. Didn't double nappy them either. I don't think either of mine ever pooped in the pool.

The Water Babies site has an online shop which explains it all!

Thank you for all your replies! I've ordered him a funky happy nappy from amazon so hopefully that should help. Do people really not mind about the wee leak potential? I know it's sterile but I always thought it was still an issue with pools 😖
