6.5 Mo only takes 1oz during the night - should I stop offering already?

She has three meals a day and of course bottles so is definitely not particularly hungry.

If she was a couple of months older I wouldn't even be asking! But 6.5 (well 27 weeks) is so little.

Mind you, she's been drinking very little at night since the day we started weaning.

WWYD?

Three meals a day is a lot for 6 month old. NHS advice is to move towards 3 meals a day at 8/9 months.

How much milk a day is your baby having? It should be their main source if nutrition. Having said that my DD went through many milk strikes.

She's taking bottles fine during the day, she's actually upped her formula intake as her night feeds have diminished. Used to be she'd only take 3oz at a time but now she's taking about 5oz a time.

I'm in Ireland and HSE advice is you can go up to 3 meals within a few weeks, god knows why the NHS is so cautious!

I suppose because she takes a few gulps during the night still (but only about 4 admittedly) I was hesitant to remove it completely but I suppose she's not going to outright refuse it either, is she?

We stopped the 11pm dream feed just before 7 months once he was having 3 decent meals so sounds similar. Hadn't had a true night feed since 10 weeks!

Does she have a dummy?

What happens in the night, does she wake up crying so you offer milk? Could you try cuddling etc first and see if she just wants some comfort? But she may well be thirsty and just need a little sip of milk, just like many adults have a sip of water during the night.

She never cries and is never distressed. The way I "knew" she wanted milk was that she would wake up and start panting excitedly. But last night she just stirred at 11 and 3 and each time I basically have her a dream feed. Which she took very little of. She never opened her eyes.

That's what started me wondering if the dummy (yes she has one) would have done the same job?

I would just give her the dummy

My ds stirs sometimes in the night but always goes right back off when given him dummy

Three meals a day is absolutely fine if she's taken well to food. She is obviously not very hungry if just having 1oz so shes grtting enough calories during the day.

We stopped night feeds (i.e. Nothing from 7pm to 7am) at around 5 months, except if he was ill or travelling or whatever. I moved from bf to fully ff and noticed he was taking a bottle at 4am ish but then hardly anything at 7am as he wasn't hungry. So I dropped the middle of the night feed over a week and just offered dummy and cuddles instead. He didn't seem to miss the night feed and was hungry for his 8oz when he woke in the morning! After a few weeks he figured out how to find his own dummy and just slept right through.

So if she's only taking 1oz then it doesn't seem like shes hungry. I'd just give the dummy and see what happens
