Lunch Boxes again

I have always thought that we are advised to put around 5 items in a lunch box .

Saw a friends children's lunch boxes containing 10 items which were :

Jam sandwich
Chocolate cake bar
2 x Frubes
Jelly
Pepperami
Cucumber (uneaten)
Banana (uneaten)
Chocolate

The amount of sugar in this freaks the hell out of me ? Even the sandwich is sugar loaded. Why would an adult think this is a good idea ? Clearly with all the sugary snacks the children won't eat the veg and fruit !

I've not seen advice for 5 items before. Mine has a bagel or brioche roll - halved with each half either ham/jam/cheese. 2 portions of fruit e.g. Strawberries, grapes, satsuma. A yoghurt and a small biscuit item e.g. Mini cookies, square bar, etc. Bottle of flavoured water.

He has a banana or apple for morning snack

This was a local guideline given though schools which I heard a few years back when DD was around 5.
Do you guys think that's a sugar / processed food overload or a normal lunch ? I was shocked how much stuff was in there .

it's definitely too much sugar! there's no need for all of that and obv the child will leave the banana and cucumber if they have copius amounts of processed sugary treats to choose from instead.

DD has
marmite sandwich
raw veg sticks eg carrot cucumber pepper and/or olives
sometimes slices of cheese
pot of berries or grapes
apple/pear/satsuma
water

treats like yoghurts, cakes, biscuits etc we don't have in lunchbox and save for home.

obv everyone is different though!

Those were my thoughts exactly . Wish my DD Would eat olives & avocado . She's generally great but won't go for those . The closest she gets to a treat in lunch is cereal bar or a yoyo bear which still aren't great in my eyes ! The amount of sugar my friends kids are eating they must surely crash !
Also see her pouring sweets in their mouths when they come out of school ! Bizarre

I think it's about balance. My dd is 5 and has a sandwich on wholemeal bread, cucumber, tomatoes, strawberries and a packet of crisps and a tube yoghurt. Sometimes cheddars instead of the crisps. You also have to put it in balance with everything else they eat during the day.
