What age would you start giving pocket money?

Basically what the subject says. Interested to know what age people start giving pocket money? My dd is only 6 and my dh has started talking to her about it. I think it's too early but wanted a quick survey of what age other people start at? And how much?

I don't think there was ever a set time with dd1 as her weekly visits to her grandparents used to see her money in her pocket from being a toddler.

I think with dd2 & dd3 it will start as soon as they are old enough to do regular chores. Doing chores for pocket money is not something I did with dd1 and she can be a lady madam.

I started with a token system at 4 to help with behaviour and pestering in shops, he was still too little to understand money then but he could understand that once he had five tokens he could get one magazine.

When he was 5 it changed to money as we moved to Germany so he couldn't read the magazines any more. But wasn't until he was about 6 he got pocket money regardless. He got €1.50 per week, €2 now he is 8. He mostly spends it on sweets and trading cards.

I'm instigating pocket money after Christmas with DS who's 6 because he's starting to ask and some friends at school have it. He has a little purse in his stocking and I think I'll give him 50p or £1 a week.

We give pocket money, £3 per week but it relies in good behaviour! We have a chart with 5 points available each day, if they get 28 out of 35 at the end of the week they have earned their pocket money. Tasks on the chart include making bed, putting away shoes and bags, good listening, being kind and staying in bed. Children are 5 and 7.

DD was about 8/9 from what I remember, it was about $5 per week, it gave her money to buy magazines etc, on the proviso that she had been fairly good and kept a tidy room.

Then it stopped for a while when she started Secondary as we were on the bones of our backsides and couldn't afford it, she now gets $20 per week as a 17yo which is her budget for clothes, activities etc.

DD2 was 5 or 6 I think. We started with 50p per week. Every now and then we walked into town and she chose sweets or a cuddly toy or a 'breakable' from a charity shop. Maybe now it would be £1 per week as you can't get much for less than £2.

£5 a week at 10.
Has to split it 50%, 30% and 20% because I want him to learn the value of money . He could choose which % goes where. Choices were Spend, Save, Charity.

So it's not a lot for him to spend a week but he only buys sweets and crap tbh. He saves for lego sets etc. Charity usually goes and buys cat / dog food every couple of months and take it to the sancturies.

We pay for his youth club and sports though.
