New born strange breathing should I be worried?

My 9 day old has had a really strange breathing paternity since he's been born. He sometimes looks as though he is panting and breathing really fast his breathing never seems normal. I have told 3 different midwives now who have said it's normal without ever watching him properly I'm so worried
The internet saus that 40 to 60 breaths per minute is normal however alot of the time I count 66 to 70!
I really hope I'm just being an overly worried new mum but I jist feel something is wrong he seems fine in himself but his breathing looks tiring for him

If you're worried, ring your GP or 111, they will be able to advise. If I was you I'd ring. If you think something is not right then trust your instinct. Don't worry about being considered neurotic or anything, IME doctors would always rather see tiny babies just to be safe. Please ring them. Hope he's ok X

As you're worried op I'd get the GP to have a look at the baby. It's probably normal and it will put your mind at ease.

Agree. Get him checked if you're worried. You're his voice. Dont let anyone tell you otherwise, but how about next time he does it you take a movie of it so you can show the GP exactly what he's doing?

OK my ds has had breathing problems since birth signs that a babys having problems are
Grunting
Nose flareing
Chest and neck retractions
And breaths more then 60
Take him to hospital next time his breathing fast.

DD had this and ended up being admitted to hospital as it turned out it was the first sign that she had an infection. She had a raised temperature too by the time we were admitted. It turned out to be a mild viral infection but we were kept in for three days while she had tests (including a lumbar puncture) and IV antibiotics in case it was anything scary.

Like I say she had a temperature too and actually it was probably just a cold that she fought off on her own with some help from magic breast milk. I'm sure your baby is fine but better be safe than sorry. Get her checked at the gp and see what they say.

Their breathing is less steady than an older baby's. They are still getting hang of it. So faster slower faster...
It sounds like MWs have observed his breathing & can tell it's within the normal pattern.

sorry, my bad, I misread: are you saying he does the fast breathing most the time or just once in a while?

There's a name for the bizarre pattern of breathing that newborns do. It's totally normal. lady2016 has listed the warning signs for you, so if there's none of that, then that's good.

Yes- periodic breathing. Totally normal (both mine have done it) but really freaks you out at first. It really sounds like somethings wrong. Mine both grew out of it in a few weeks.
