Ear infections

My DD (12 months) keeps getting ear infections, she's just recovered from one and finished her course of antibiotics (Amoxicillin) and it now looks like she is getting another. This will be her third is as many months.

This is our first child, so I am probably panicking, but I wondered if anyone had any advice about how to stop babies getting ear infections or any experience of the same.

We had the same and were told that children who are prone to ear infections are likely to get them until the age of 2 when the ear drum changes. I think bottles and dummies increase the risk - do you use these and could you drop them if so?

I would investigate why she's getting ear infection all the time. Sounds a bit too much to me to have one after the other like that. Have you considered asking her doctor to take some steps and investigate if there is any underlying causes?

The doctor said the same as was told to Universal, the last one wasn't as bad as others so it could have just been the tail end of the previous one.

Doc said if she gets another they will investigate further.

No dummies but we still give a bottle in the morning and one before bed. Keep trying to stop her drinking from bottles but that's another battle!!

Only thing to add is next time ask if they should swab the discharge - we had to have a 10 day course of antibiotics when they found which bacteria was causing the infection.
