boredom?!

Do toddlers have the capacity to be bored? I don't do toddler groups or any set classes with my two year old and constantly worry he's bored/under stimulated. He sees other kids of different ages, has a ton of toys, my undivided (pretty much!) attention...but I still worry..

Boredom is a good thing - I don't want my kids to grow up expecting to be entertained all the time. I do think toddlers spending all day, every day at home might get bored, but it doesn't sound like that's the case here.

Mine definitely gets bored if we stay at home doing unstructured playing too much but I don't think he specifically needs set classes or groups - as long as we do some specific activities at home (eg cooking), playdates, have a few outings on the bus, go to the supermarket, he'd be fine I think. (As it happens we do go to some toddler groups from time to time, partly because it's simpler to turn up to the group than organise separate meet ups with other children).

Agree with scandichick. Being bored fuels learning to entertain and occupy themselves which is a really important skill. Of course they need stimulation and interaction too, but sometimes it's really good to just plonk them down with some toys and let them get on with it for a while.

Being bored is very useful. But my DS does need lots of outdoor running around and a decent amount of intellectual stimulation otherwise he does start to get bored. Some boredom is good but over time it can lead to deteriorating behaviour (at least with DS).
