Does anybody give their baby nutribullet smoothie?

Hi my LO is 7 months and I was wondering whether I could give him a nutribullet smoothie of fruit and veg which is then sieved into a cup so there are no bits.

Also the books don't say can't give nuts and seeds to babies, they just say for nuts to blend them down and not to give them whole so I see why I can't put seeds and nuts into the nutribullet for LO.

Does anybody have more insight into the above?

Thanks BB. I was thinking what the harm in it as it's fruit and veg and seeds are beneficial too. I suppose I should read the salt content of the seeds but I am sure they ain't high and maybe one type of seed in each smoothie. At least baby will get five a day in a drink and anything else in the day is a bonus

I think the nut guideline is due to allergies and choking risks.
If it's blended, wouldn't it be no choking risk?
I would have thought it fat better to introduce food as unprocessed as possible though. Babies need to learn to chew etc, and food gives most nutrition when unmessed with.

Far better, not fat, sorry!

Yeah I give him fruit and veg as finger food but with BLW babies don't take as much in because they are exploring and learning as well as eating so I thought a bit in a drink as well as fruit and veg as finger food would mean he is still taking it in.

I am doing a mix of baby led and parent led weaning

Plus the nutribullet is a nutrition extractor not a blender so it means it just means it has all nutrients in the drink so no goodness is lost

I wouldn't. He only needs tiny amounts of food at this age and it should be about learning to eat- milk should still be his main source of nourishment.

Juice only counts for one of your five a day and I think smoothies you can stretch to two.

Although having written that I am thinking that there is little difference between smoothie and puree.

My toddler enjoys them but it's a sip of small cup here and there not really a major part of f his diet.

At 7 months they say should be giving baby three meals a day with two snacks so it's more about introducing new tastes

Yes, but the amounts are tiny! Their main nutrition should be from milk until 12mo, so if FG, still 18-21 FL oz a day- loads.
The amount in a 'meal' for a 7mo is about 60-70 ml max ID have thought. (Sorry to mix capacities, all milk is listed in FL oz, but I bf)

I think it would be easy to give a very young baby too much fruit and veg if they had smoothies-it might well lead to a very explosive bottom!

Why would you? Other than occasionally as tastes as part of a balanced diet?

Babies are learning to eat - to acquire chewing skills etc. A smoothie doesn't do this, however " packed with nutrition" it is. Maybe for a bigger kid who actively won't eat veg, but at a few months into weaning, I can't see the advantage. You also risk leaning Towards mixture that may be very sweet .

Well I give it as brunch so it does not affect his weaning... He is having a mix of BLW and spoon fed so he is learning to chew with BLW.

The mixture is half veg and half fruit which is better than giving my baby an u healthy snack ! I have tried it for the second day and my LO really likes it.l which is a plus as it's all healthy foods

I wouldnt.

Fresh fruit and veg are good for your health.

Smoothies are full of sugar. May be natural sugar but it's still teeth decaying

I still give fresh fruit and veg through BLW .....

It's a nutribullet smoothie consisting of half veg and half fruit.... Fruit has sugar but it's still better than having processed fruit baby foods and processed foods

Fruit is natural sugar like u said and end of day it's a snack! It is not a full blown meal he is having

No need to get defensive.

You asked would I do it and I said no I wouldn't and listed my reasons as to why.

Doesn't mean you shouldn't

You don't mix BLW and traditional weaning it's one or the other. Finger food for BLW and spoons and finger food for traditional. If you mix it's not 'baby led' Hmm

Nowhere have I seen 3 meals and 2 snacks for a 7 month old! It's nearer 9/10 months!

I would think you would cause some serious irritated bowels doing smoothie like that. It's not needed just stick to baby stuff.

Funny how you came on for advice then ended up defensive when people actually replied.

I said I was doing a mix of BLW and spoon feeding... I never said I was purely doing BLW

Why ask for opinions and then get defensive and tell us we're wrong and do it anyway? Odd Confused.

Also I know loads of moms that are doing three meals a day for their 7 month year old... I am on doing it on baby's cues and he wants to eat and drink milk alongside ... Can't deprive him of food if he wants it
