what would you do

I'm finding myself very frustrated with my 7yo dd1 and wondered how others would deal with these situations. I think that I may overact at times and am not really sure why these things get me so wound up. So I would love to know if these things would bother anyone else and what they would do.

Firstly dd1 asks to put wii dance on. She puts it on and it is on very loud. I ask her to turn it down a bit and she mutes it!

Secondly we're in the car and both DDs have put sun shades up, it is getting dark and we are going on the motorway and I like to look out the back passenger window when changing lanes so I ask her to take it down so I can see better. She says she will as long as dd2 takes hers down, (I didn't even realise dd2 was up as I don't seem to look through that window). Dd2 4yo says no so dd1 says I'm not taking it down then.

What would you do/say in response?

That you're the parent and need to be in control of the car. If she messes about you don't be taking her out again. If she mutes wiidance then turn it off as she clearly isn't that interested.

Thanks LIZB, i had a massive rant at her in the car that me being able to drive safely was more important than her game and that hers sisters was not relevant to me!!

I did switch the wii off and then had to hold my tongue so I didn't go into another rant.

She says she does these things because she doesn't like being told what to do/because she thinks her sister gets more love/attention/everything than her (which is not true our entire world revolves around her and her moods and her social life at the moment)

Sorry am just in a really bad mood, I really want to be the adult but feel I keep having tantrums!!!

I would remove the blinds until the children learn that doing as they are told in the car is not a matter up for discussion or negotiation.

If she mutes Just Dance, her problem not yours. I give my children a volume number "make sure the volume is 12 or lower please".
