loss of appetite and suddenly sleeping at night??

Hi everyone,

My baby boy is 10 weeks old and always has been a very hungry baby (he's bf and used to ask for food every 2h at least) and rubbish sleeper (didn't sleep at night at all). Things changed literally overnight 2 days ago or so. He now almost sleeps through the night (woke up few times last night for very short feeds and dozed off again, but every then it wasn't a proper wake up with crying etc, he was just grunting a bit with eyes closed, so I offered the boob and he ate a bit half asleep- we co sleep) and lost his appetite. I woke him up at 9am this morning (normally the other way around), and he hardly made any proper swallowing, I cat even call this a nursing. Also what I noticed lately is he keeps his hands in his mouth almost constantly licking his fingers or fists. I'm thinking to call the GP and make an appt, but he only saw us very recently re other issue and all was well, no ear infection, eyes ok, etc. He does have a slightly swollen lymph node at the back of his head though but GP said nothing to worry. Don't know if all this is relevant, but didn't wanna drip feed. Would appreciate any advice.

Thank you.

It's pretty common for babies to suddenly BF less around 3 months old, I know my daughter did - it totally freaked me out, but she was fine. Weight stayed increasing, she was well in herself, she just wanted less milk! Enjoy it rather than worrying, he's probably not needing quite as much comfort from feeding as he did before :) if you're worried take him to get weighed so you can see if he's taking enough. A bit of a dip is normal, but dropping weight obviously isn't.

Thank you Minty, I didn't know it was so common! Makes you worry sick, doesn't it, when it happens! Wonder if it'll stay like this or get back to the way it was?

I went to the baby clinic yesterday and they said he's gained weight very well since last time (2 weeks ago when we had gp check up). But the loss of appetite started only couple of days ago. When I mentioned it she said nothing to worry, but she was rushing and didn't even look at him. Well he seems to be eating better last night and this morning so I'll see how it goes and of course would go to gps or hv if needed.
