How often do you bathe a toddler?

Brightonmumtoatoddler · 29/05/2015 21:25

I only ask as I saw a thread where someone was horrified that a two year old was bathed only a couple of times a week. It's occurred to me that I bathe my toddler between two and three times a week (she gets a warm water flannel to do her 'top and tail' every day)
I do this consciously as three of my friends kids get bathed every day and all of their children have some sort of exzema or skin irritation. My daughter never has and I'm sure there is a link.
What's the general consensus? Is it so horrifying not to bathe your children every day?

Every day, because she loves it? Even when she didn't like it though, it was a big part of our bed time routine. And those times were phases of development, like trying to walk, in the tub.

Oh sorry as to your final question, not horrid no. But most love a chance to play in the tub, so why not?

Most days because it is the easiest way to clean her after dinner, some days if we are busy we skip it and some days she has two, if she is filthy from painting or some such activity. I don't always use bubbles though as I worry about thrush with her being a girl.

DD loves the bath though, if it was a battle or she didn't need cleaning that often then I wouldn't do it, of course it isn't horrifying to bath a few times a week.

Every other day mostly because any part of bed time routine is hated and a battle. He loves a bath when in it though. Also as a family we don't have time.

Not horrifying but we do every day because:
A) he really loves the bath
And
B) he'd scream blue murder if I tried to "top and tail" him. Really hates being wiped at all.

I'm rely torn on this. I went through a phase of bathing him every night to create a routine but he doesn't need it and we don't really have the time. So he now gets bathed around 3 times a week, more if especially dirty.

We've got three kids aged 17mths, 4yrs and 6yrs and during term time they bathe/shower 2-3 Times per week and if we're busy or during the holidays it's less. We only use an organic wash on them as my daughter tends to get irritated bits with anything else and we always rinse them off in the shower after a bath. I think anymore than 3 times a week is a bit much in my honest opinion as it can be drying on their delicate skin.

I bath dd as much as she wants (minimum about twice a week). Its most days atm.
Ds had once weekly baths as a baby because any more have him eczema. He's 1 now and seems to have grown out of it and loves his daily bath.

Every other day here (3yo twins), but do a proper strip wash on non bath days. Used to be daily but DS eczema seems much better now we've stopped daily baths. Wash hair even less often - probably twice a week.

Every other day, more if it's needed. Dd2 had 2 baths today, it's been a messy day. In summer it's often every day because of sun cream in hair and getting dirty in the garden.

Dd1 had a bath every day as a baby to establish a bedtime routine, but when it was no longer necessary we moved to our current routine.

Every day. She's normally filthy and the bath makes her sleepy.

Everyday as part of bedtime routine. No dry skin conditions here at all.

Like Annunziata and Only1scoop say for both.

Every day.

Bath time is popular, part of bedtime routine, I think sitting in a nappy all day is a bit gross and nice to clean that area before bed.

Every day as he loves it and it's a sleep cue. He does have sensitive skin but we on use epaderm on it, nothing else. He always seems to be dirty enough to warrant a proper wash too, and it must feel nice after wearing a nappy all day. We might cut down once toilet trained.

It used to be every day but since ds arrived 9 weeks ago dd (2.9) has decided she hates baths and it is "too late" to have one that night. Now it turns into a battle, so I force her if she hasn't had one for 3 days or is obviously dirty. Confused Ideally I would like her to have one most days but at least every other day but cannot fight it at the moment.

One of mine went months without a bath as a baby due to having a harness to correct a hip problem. She was clean enough (and luckily very late to get much hair!) Once I could bath her I did it daily and her eczema started to show so I cut down to every other. I think its one of the things where there is no right or wrong, just do what suits your family.

I do mine every day because it's part of his bedtime routine but I've never used bubble bath or soap on him just plain water so his skin is fine.

Report
Blazing88 · 30/05/2015 14:31

Every day. Both of them. Neither have skin problems.

Both of them need their bits washing. Why would you faff with a flannel when you can dip them in, let them enjoy splashing around and let the warm water lower their body temp ready to go to bed?!

About 3 times per week here. DD is nearly 10 months old. She hates baths as a baby so never established it as part of her bedtime routine and to be honest I find it hard to fit in. Evening seem to be the most hectic part of the day. I usually bath her in the morning, it works for us.

2-3 Times a week for a 1 yr old. As you say, frequent washing can lead to dry skin, and I want to avoid eczema. We enjoy baths, but no need to do it everyday.

Clarabell78 · 30/05/2015 21:53

It's a myth that children (or anyone) with eczema should bathe less often apparently. A leading dermatologist advised us that our 2 year old should have a bath daily to help his eczema. We don't always manage having said that! More often every other day :-)
