Johnson Baby Products

Hello, my DH is 10mo and when she was born I was given heaps of Johnson baby products. I've never used them as I was told they have toxins in that can cause health problems later in life. Are they really that bad? And is it all products? I have Shampoo, baby oil, talc, couple of different bubble baths and baby lotion all just sat here. Please could someone advise as I would appreciate it, I haven't wanted to give it away if it's really that bad.
Thank you in advance. :)

Toxins ....not heard that.... They aren't the most natural though....

Weleda stuff is nice.

We found using the Johnson stuff on DS scalp gave him bad cradle cap but the rest of his skin was fine. I would try a little bit on skin and see how it reacts. x

I wouldn't use them as I really feel that paraben free stuff if the way forward for children, even adults. Some people don't feel the same way though so I wouldn't hesitate to offer them for free on Gumtree.

I prefer infacare as both my children ended up with dry skin from johnsons but were fine with infacare

We used Johnsons which I reckon caused DD's eczema. We had quite a stash at one point.

DH now uses it.

We use Halo & Horns which is quite gentle and isn't too expensive either.

I use to use supermarket own brand when my children were younger (under 1). I am currently on the last of the shampoo and conditioner with DS2.
Now they just have the same as me.

I use halos 'n' horns as well. Very good value and no SLS or parabens. The bubble bath doesn't foam up but it's fine as a body wash. Have just bought a bottle of Child's Farm bubble bath also without SLS or parabens which is currently on offer at Boots.
I found johnsons was really bad for ds's skin. I can't understand how it's so popular. Suppose it's all about the branding.

Thank you everyone. I will have to talk to my friend who told me and ask her where she heard it from. Don't think I'll be using any of it though, especially if it causes dry skin.

I used johnsons on both of mine and I plan on using it too with DC3 when born. neither of my two ever had any problems

Baby oil makes a good eye make up remover and we use the talc for swimming hats. I tried the lotion on my own skin and it stung so no way would I use it on a baby.

I ended up throwing loads of J&J stuff away as I couldn't even give it away to other mums which makes me wonder who buys it all.

I think the problem is that it's not toxic as such but that it's got a lot of ingredients in and is similar in make-up to products aimed at adults. The fact that they market it for babies is thus a bit misleading, it's a bit strong for many hence the dry skin etc, and you definitely don't need all those ingredients to clean a baby so I guess that's why many parents don't use it. But I'm sure plenty babies don't have any reaction to it.

As PP have said I don't think it's dangerous as such. However it's harsher than other brands and can give baby dry skin.
Try it. If it's too harsh for baby use it for you rather than waste it.

It irritates my dds skin.

im the same, got given a load of it but wouldnt have used it (especially now ds has developed excema) because i remember reading (sorry, dont remember where) that the parabens are associated with cancer, enough for denmark to ban them in products aimed at under 3s, not specifically johnsons. As i say, cant remember where so that might be nonsense but im not a fan of harsh toiletries on my own skin, never mind my baby's!

We use the night time bubble bath and the lotion and baby oil for massage with no problems but I won't be using any of the three tuns of talc MIL bought as I hate the bloody stuff.

That's it ruth1104 i remember now, I heard it was banned in some counties and one of the ingredients is the same as whats in pest control. It's a shame because it smells so nice...
