father christmas fears

My DD is almost 3 and recently had a melt down when we bumped into father Christmas at the shops. I don't want her to miss out on pre Christmas fun and parties that she would enjoy however she is obviously frightened of him. Should I avoid completely or just keep a safe distance from Santa?

have you asked her why she was frightened? could it be the setting ie wandering around tesco opposed to seeing him in his grotto?

Well she wasn't keen last year but seemed interested from a distance then panicked as he came closer. I think she was spooked out by his appearance and maybe is one of those kids that doesn't like people dressed up. I have asked her why but she just repeats I don't like father christmas.

Aww bless her!! I would just let her get used to it in her own time. maybe once she sees other kids joining in the fear factor will ease
