How to get baby into Moses basket.

DS is 6 weeks now and hasn't been in the Moses basket for any longer than around 10 minutes. I feed and wind him, lay him gently down when he seems deeply asleep but within minutes he begins to fuss and wakes up. He is only settling lying on me and sleeps on me/ next to me all night.
I'm so tired and just want to get into a deep sleep which I can't do with him on me.
Will we be sleeping like this forever? I can cope with it for now I guess but not indefinitely.
TIA

Hi there,

We were given a Moses basket with DC2 and it was not working for us at all. We moved her into a regular cot too early, but it worked. For our third, we invested in a co sleeper (Chicco Next2Me). It has been brilliant... So much more comfortable than a Moses basket... roomier, better for feeding, you can raise it up on one end if baby has colic. Have a look at co sleepers.

Also, all 3 of my kids were tummy sleepers. If I didn't put them on their tummies they wouldn't settle. I would them turn them onto their backs once they fell into a deep sleep.

Hi. Congratulations on the birth of your son Smile.
Have u tried putting a top you've been wearing below him in the Moses basket so that it smells of you? I think laying a hot water bottle on the top and removing it just before you transfer your DS might also "trick" him into thinking he is still lying on you.
The first few months are tough. You'll find your way and it will get easier.

Hello, we have the same problem. DS is now 14 weeks and he screams if not on me...no moses basket, crib or pram. In the day he naps in the sling, at night on me in bed. I don't sleep well and never intended to co-sleep as I thought it was dangerous but it is the only way DS will sleep.

I asked a MW who does sleep problems about it, and she said it is extremely common and not really a problem per se, more them expressing their need to be close. She said my lack of sleep was more to do with my concerns about safety and to address that either by making baby their own little area on the bed or getting a co-sleeper.

I started a thread about it and learnt on here that some babies do brilliantly in co-sleepers, others somehow know it is not the same bed and will not tolerate them at all even though they are still next to their mums. So I didn't want to spend lots of money just to own a fourth thing that the baby will not sleep in...

One of the suggestions was to buy an Ikea Gulliver cot (£60) because the fourth side is removable and you can improvise a co-sleeper from it, and if DS won't go down in it I can still get use out of it as a proper cot when he is older by re-attaching the other side.

DH bought one and put it up today, (he has had to take a little bit off the legs to get it flush with out bed) so tonight is the first night of trying it as a co-sleeper, I'll let you know how we get on if you are interested!

My DS hated the Moses basket whereas my DD was fine with it.

My DD would fall asleep on me and cry when I tried to move him so I would then place him tummy down on a big pillow which I moulded to my shape kind of and he was happy enough with that.

He actually slept in the graco travel cot in the end all the time which had a bassinet.

My son was the same. I would have to lay him in the Moses basket, then stand for about 15 minutes with my hands wrapped around his chest.
Since I started using a sleeping bag (as opposed to a cellular blanket) he goes down without a problem
