are vitamins causing 7mo to have hard poos?

Or is it normal now he's on solids? He strains alot and the poos are very firm and solid. Shouldn't they be soft still at this age?

He's bf and on 3 meals a day. I also offer water alot and lots of soft fruit to help stool soften.

Could it be the vitamin drops I'm giving him?

Do they contain iron? That might cause it, I think.

Yes I think they do. I was told by the hv as I'm bf I need to supplement with vitamins.

Dd1 was on formula at this stage so I didn't.

Should I ditch the vitamins?

3 meals is a lot for a 7 month old, NHS advice is to wait till 8-9 months. Possibly he is straining because he is having too many solids. Is he eating stuff like Weetabix or bananas? They can cause babies to bung up.

I'd dial back on the solids a bit, see if that helps.

Don't ditch the vitamins, babies who aren't on formula need them, especially vitamin D.

noble I thought this and the hv said to follow his cues. I do blw with some pureed fruit mixed in porridge at breakfast. I've tried skipping a meal abd he cries.

I've offered extra bf but not made a difference.

I'm offering just a veg a lunch now - no carb or protein but not helping with the poos.

Should I start skipping meals?

He's 91st for height and 75th for weight. Has been since just after birth (born on 91st for weight).

He has banana once a week and mainly soft fruit like strawberry, pear, apple, melon.

He does have porridge or muesli with fruit for breakfast everyday. Could it be this?

Should I switch to say yoghurt?

My 6.5mo Ds is suffering with constipation due to weaning. I've bought some dried apricots and prunes, plan to put them in porridge tomorrow to see if that will help... I'll let you know how we get on. I think some constipation is normal but maybe if it doesn't improve speak to gp?

My two were sensitive to solids at this age. Sweet potato was good. Minimal rice, bread and rice cakes though. And apples/bananas.

Oh are apples not good either?

It's not so much the case as he's constipated, he's going alot at least 2 poos a day, but the ppos are very solid. It just seems too early for the poos to be like this. With dc1 I remember her poos to be still very soft but she was on formula by now so wondering if breastmilk is partly the issue? Could I not have enough?

Solid poos are ok, pebbly poos aren't.

I had a bottle refuser and she had a similar problem but we also need to get calcium into her. She's only 3.5 but no-one ever suggested vitamins but 2 yrs down the line it seems to be the done thing.

We made her weetabix/porridge very milky. She had yoghurt daily diluted with milk. We also stopped using bubbles in her bath and taught her to use a straw, she then was quite happy to drink water etc out and about and would consume much more than if we gave it to her straight from a cup. Weird that.

I'd try to increase the amount of fluid he is getting and back off the vitamins for a week and see if anything changes.

He'll take water from a bottle just not milk ans tge poos are firm but squashy if you know what I mean. They're nit pebbley.

Am confused about the vitamins as my hv told me they're important for bf babies but I think they're the reason he's not pooing very well.

and now dd1 is regressing with her toilet training - feel all I do is talk about blooming poo and wee!
