Hello,

I'm weaning my 6 1/2 month old ds (predominately baby led but with the combination of some purees/yoghurts.

He's currently having 3 meals a day but I'm pretty confused about how much Milk he should be having. At the moment I'm really struggling to get him to have any more than 2 and a half 220ml bottles per day. Is this too little?

Thanks in advance

I'd probably cut down the food a bit to encourage him to see milk as his main source of food - we didn't move to 3 meals until almost 8 months. I think at 6.5months we were still on 1 meal and 5x210ml bottles, then at 7 we went to 2 meals and 4 bottles, now at 11.5 months he's still on 3 bottles with 3 meals and a snack in the afternoon....but he is very greedy!

Guidelines are 500-600ml formula a day as a minimum until 12 months. If his intake drops below 500ml he needs a vitamin supplement.

We used to hide the formula in the food: as they ate more solid food and drank less milk we'd give them the milk in other ways such as making up their cereal with it, adding it to mash and rice pudding or making a kind of smoothie by mashing up some banana and adding it to that with a bit of yoghurt.

It's fine! Some of them "get" food a bit earlier that's all. Just make sure he gets vitamin supplements if he's not getting an average of 500ml formula per day (sounds like he is) and if it's a bad milk day give an extra yoghurt or bit of cheese.

It can be a good idea to offer milk about an hour before food.

Dd has always eaten v well but as a bottle refuser we went through a very milk light stage when she was weaned. Making up for it now but still only has about 500ml per day at 10m. I'm not worried at all, she's doing fine.
