Hi Ladies,

I have a 2 week old DS and DH has gone back to work this morning after 2 weeks at home. DH works away from Monday morning to Thursday evening..I am quite nervous about doing it all on my own for the next few days especially the nights. Can anyone give me any advice on staying sane in the day and staying awake at night?! Am so happy to have my DS with me, just a bit nerve wracking having no one to check something with!!

Thanks!!

Congratulations! Don't have high expectations of yourself to begin with. Sleep when the baby sleeps, try and remember to eat and drink, invest in a sling so you can keep baby close while you gently start to get on with life. But first couple of weeks just rest as much as possible and try and go with the flow. Good luck.

Congrats! It is a scary time, but you will soon get the hang of it.

Be easy on yourself, don't try to cram too much into one day, but do try to get out as much as you can, even a short walk can make the day feel better!
Rest as much as you can and see if you can get some company some days. It can be lonely, but I found a day shared was an easier day.

Good luck, and have plenty of Biscuit and Brew!!!

I completely empathise. My DH returned to Afghanistan 14 days after DD was born. That was 11 weeks ago and he's back on nov 15th - woo hoo!!
The best advice that I can give is for you to be kind to yourself, accept help when offered (I struggled with this), sleep whenever you can. Keep the baby near - in a sling during the day and next to your bed at night to reduce the hassle of feeding.
You can do it!
Oh yes - and never ever feel bad for asking for help. The health and happiness of you and your baby are both important - don't struggle when you don't have to. Xxxx

Create a semi circle around you (either in bed or sofa) of the following items:

Snacks
Drinks
TV remote
Magazines
Pillows
Phone (for posting emergency threads on MN)
Oh - and your beautiful new baby!

Enjoy, you'll be fine :)
