My 5 year old has started to play it having seen his brother, 9, play so I hope so! I thought it was just a bit like online lego...?
Only thing I say is for them to ignore any links, to press escape if anything pops up and they have good parental controls and browser security in place.
Will watch with interest though as I've heard DS1 'meeting' his friends on the site / on different games. Confused

I've just asked them what they do on it:
'We build houses, we blow up houses, we kill people for money' Shock
How does that work?
'You find a game where you get something like a gun or something and then you hit the other person, who are like Lego people, and they sort of fall apart then you get money so you can fly or jump over walls'

my DS1 has asked to set up a Direct Debit to pay for etra things on this site - i tried in the past to delete it off his computer but it was buried so deep in the programming i could never get rid of it - this really brings up alarm bells for me so i am really unsure about sending regular money - does anyone have any experience of this company/site?

Yes it's fine. Never had any problems with it - and they do respond quickly if you have any issues. Ds rather stupidly gave someone his security details and promptly found all his bought stuff had been stolen. The user responsible was banned as soon as ds reported it, and they reimbursed all his stolen stuff within a couple of days.

Bit of a bugger to get him off it though....

My boys age 7 and 11 like Roblox - never had any problems. Titchy - google 'timesupkidz', one of the best £20 we have spent. Enables you to control how much your children spend on the computer each day and when they have access to it. Has solved all our computer time issues. A one off payment can be used for more than one child. Love it!

I have been an avid member of the community since 2008, I am now 15 and still play. I have had a few issues with other kids being immature on the sight but now under 12's have a whitlelisted chat that only allows certain words through. This works well. Roblox has a strict anti dating policy as well. Encourage your child to create and script games IN STUDIO and learn about the community.

If you have any issues whilst on the sight you can message "alexdacool300" for some help.

Roblox is a fun and educational game overall. Definately worth playing.

By the way if your child asks for builders club, tell them to make a game that gets 10000 visits first. A difficult achievement that shows they are learning something.

There are a lot of bullys on ROBLOX

Report
poodiepie · 20/03/2014 06:52

They were all Ip Banned so no more bullies to bully everyone and all the tobacco ads were deleted and their creators banned. The ODers (Online Daters) were also banned. ROBLOX is, always has been, and always will be kid friendly.

Hey just to let you know roblox will never get rid of ALL of the 'sick' people or kids out there.Kids in roblox or said to be can commonly say mean or innapropriate things especially in front of other kids that are young.Me?I report them immediately.Roblox isn't life free. Its life. Now as long as your child gives their real age which is under 13 then they should only be able to talk to people who are or claim to be their age range.under 13.I have to warn you many adults may play roblox and lie about their age.Dont get me wrong roblox is a very fun creative and great place.Definitley a very nice website and sometimes even educating.Because of my comments please do not take your child off roblox.Just watch them play or better yet make a roblox account yourself! That way you can spend time with your child and monitor them!hey my mom does that with me!So just to let you know roblox isn't a fairyland but it is a great place. So don't lean so much on the negatives and go right on through with the positives!thx so much for listening.

No. While the messages in chat are censored, I've stopped my daughter playing it because one of the maps in the game was playing a sound clip which repeated the words 'I hate f*king n*gers'.
If that's not bad enough, the role playing going on often seems to cross the border into creepyville.
There's some nasty, possibly dangerous folks on Roblox.

Online bullying via in-game chat is one of a few reasons why my DS is no longer allowed to play on Roblox. Tbh after a while he didn't miss it.

Hello Everyone Worrying about roblox, Im Helperobc from roblox and yes as
NumbersAreRubbish123 pointed at this is starting to become a Problem on roblox. Sound clips.

Roblox Has been under a Massive attack on some of the games made by users, Roblox would NEVER allow audio clips with bad words on for the most part. When a sound clip plays something bad its most likely a Hackers Doing... And roblox is trying to fix this

Now, there is a rating on roblox however for the XBOX if you havent noticed.
Everyone 10+ Which I agree on it there are certain games that do contain some violence on roblox, These games on roblox are User created meaning not created by ROBLOX.

However, If you wish for a game rating for roblox games I've been thinking of making a group on roblox called RGR - (ROBLOX Game Rating) or With another name RGRS (ROBLOX Game Rating System)

ROBLOX FOR XBOX ONE RATING: www.esrb.org/ratings/Synopsis.aspx?Certificate=10025257&Title=ROBLOX+for+Xbox

ROBLOX ON PC RATING: N/A But seems to fit Everyone 10+

Reasons Why roblox doesnt have rating ON PC - Online interactions are not rated BY ESRB. For those in confusion basically it means interactions with other players are not rated...

Reason why games get hacked: Filtering System for hack detection is turned off and its hard to work with it for games (MOSTLY ALL ROBLOX GAMES) that have scripts in them.

Deleting it will not solve anything, and if your do not know what you're doing (as it is very simple to uninstall an application) will either foster some very bad feelings between you, or you will accidentally delete an important file to the computer

Ok, I will probably get blocked soon, but I am a 14 year old boy, my mum is always looking out for me and is super caring, on the question of games though I am your guy, my mum doesn't allow me to play games that are too old for me but for Roblox I can talk about. Roblox is safe in some games, but, a big but, some games are needlessly violent and have gore etc etc. I started playing when I was 10 and I stuck with games that were not violent but I cannot promise that your son/daughter wont. If you lay down some ground rules about what they can or cannot play it should be safe.

I will probably get blocked for this, but I am a 14 year old boy, I love my mum and she is always looking out for me, she cares for me and always knows whats right. I may not be a mum but I can give information on things parents haven't done like roblox. My mum does not allow me to play games that are above my age and i respect that. Anyway Roblox is a great game it is safe for under 12s but, a big but, some games are not, some games are needlessly violent and gruesome so if you give your son/daughter guidelines then roblox should be safe for you child

Hello, and thank you for this information. My seven year old daughter loves Roblox, and just last night, she was writing, and "chatting" with other kids, and really has been improving her spelling, reading, etc - my husband and I have been very pleased. However, last night, a song was playing which had the B-word in it, the SH-word in it, and my husband ran to me and said he had just heard the f-bomb. This is unacceptable! She has her real age in her profile. How can this music make it through? Is rating the game the best way to get this trash off the app?

Hello, my names Luke and I'm 14 years old. I've been playing roblox for around the last 5 years (since I was 9). Ok so, I have read through this talk or however they are called on this site and reading what other users have said they haven't really given roblox a good rep.

ODing (Online Dating)
One of the main things you need to look out for is online dating, it's not allowed on roblox but it DOES happen. However when it does happen this is always between roblox characters and as long as they stay within the parameters of the game they should be fine and safe from anyone who isn't who they say they are. You probably should make sure that they don't have a Skype or anything like that. Roblox is well made so that it is almost impossible to share addresses or phone numbers because these are all censored and if you register as a person under 13 then you can not talk fully (by this I mean that anything that could possibly be seen as an insult or as a way of sharing private information is replaced by "#").

The majority of the roblox community frowns upon Online Dating especially people like me who have been on roblox for a long time. You should encourage your children to join roblox "groups". Get them to join a "ro-nation" which are nations within roblox that are managed in a similar way to a real life nation (obviously with a lot less complex decisions) but they have branches like Police, Army, National Assembly or Congress, Intelligence, etc. Just like a real country would. In my second year of Roblox I joined a group called Cuba and I haven't left it ever since then. You'll find that joining a ro-nation will give your children feelings of achievement and in my experience it has CERTAINLY improved my maturity and grammar skills as most groups are very mature and use good grammar.

Things you have been talking about which are related to moderation on roblox
So anything you have been talking about where there are sounds or explicit visual images comes because something has either slipped through roblox censors (people who manually go through every audio and every image) or there is a "hacker" or "exploiter" who has purposefully messed up the gaming experience of others, these are very rare and Roblox is usually very good at fixing these problems.

An explanation of roblox and what you should encourage your kids to do

Roblox is described as a game by players and by people talking about it, but in reality what you see your children playing are games within a game, minigames if you like. However all roblox games are created by the users, so people like me and your children :). You should encourage your children to learn to code in Roblox LUA which is a programming language which Roblox uses and you should also encourage them to build in Roblox too. The building program is called Roblox studio and it automatically comes with the download of the roblox player. When your child is building or "scripting" (programming) you should encourage them to create their own things, because there are "free models" on roblox which are objects created by others. Encourage your children to use these for inspiration and in terms of scripting for teaching themselves. However, you should make sure that they don't just take a lot of free models and place them into a game and remark that they have made a game. Because this is a false sense of achievement for them. Creating something from scratch will help them to create nicer and smoother looking games.

Online dating usually only occurs in roleplay games, to name a few (not to give them a bad rep but...) :

www.roblox.com/games/9689581/ROBLOX-High-School
www.roblox.com/games/367959224/ROBLOXian-Waterpark
www.roblox.com/games/114890690/Life-in-Paradise

They are usually games with characters with a very thin body in the thumbnails.

However you should allow them to play these games because at this stage this is probably where they'd get all their friends on roblox from. For me, I only have a few real friends that I have shared my skype with and I have known them for usually over a year. However if they are under 13 then they should definitely not be sharing details like their skype to other roblox players, make sure they stay within roblox when talking to other players. To this day, I haven't talked to anyone I have met in roblox through skype voice chat or shared a picture of me in real life with them. However a lot of the people I know do talk but if your children are talking on roblox make sure they are around 14+ because then they should know what they are doing.

Feel free to give my roblox account name to your children and you should probably make an account yourself to test it out, talk to your kids about what they've done that day on roblox so that you can keep an eye on them but also dont sit watching over their shoulder while they play. However encourage them to show you things they've built or scripted.

Here's my roblox account:

I have deleted this game and blocked it from all iPads and computers. Thinking it was kid friendly I let my 7 year old play. Then I found some very inappropriate games. One category labeled sex, which had Lego like characters with very enlarged privates doing inappropriate things! I was not happy. And just before that the game labeled bloodfest, need I say more. I do not need this type of garbage games for my kids.

The Roblox gamers commenting on this thread sound like my ds! He is 11 and loves Roblox. He makes games and generally always seems very busy with it. I've heard him talk about "online daters" being banned from and stuff, and to me it seems like there's a very strong moral code within his roblox community. He's learned heaps of new skills with it, including programming, game design and negotiation. Other users often go to him for advice or help and he enjoys this too. It's a confidence boost.

I'm a fan. As with everything though, you need to know what your child is up to, and have limits with screen time.

My dc were playing this on iPad and loved it.... I didn't like it due to the chat, it was constant and couldn't get rid of it OP. My eldest, despite knowing to not get involved was chatting all the time. Also the other day there was an update, it is now a 12+ so thankfully as the iPads are restricted not allowed above the 9+ games Smile
