What multi-vitamins do you give your 1yr old?

Hello,

I have been giving DD (13 months) a mixture of cows milk & "Aptamil Toddler". However the HV told me I don't need to be doing that, I should just give her cows milk & drop in a multi vitamin. She said it's not only simpler but also far cheaper than buying formula. However I can't seem to find a multi-vitamin for 1yr+ that can be just added to milk as the HV suggested. It's all either chewy sweets (which I imagine DD will either stick to the sofa or feed to the dog) or a liquid that you administer with an oral syringe (far too fiddly)

Can I ask what you all do? Can you recommend a brand? I'm not sure if I'm being dense or if my local Boots is just really badly stocked!

Thanks in advance

Abidec drops are widely available. HV sounds like a good 'un. I have never given any vitamin supplements TBH.

I don't get why you can't drip the liquid one into the milk?
Are you looking for drops or going to try and dissolve a tablet?

Sorry Sue - should have added that the syringe one was orange flavoured. And really expensive!

The boots own multivitamin liquid, but it can't be added to milk (it is like orange juice), I spoon it in or syringe it.

I don't know why HVs are so obsessed with vitamins. I am now giving my DS (14 mo) vitamins, having not bothered before even though he was breastfed and they do say you should. I am kind of hoping that now he has started at nursery they will help boost his immune system so he might not be ill all the time. It seems to have worked so far (touch wood) - he's been there for two months and has only had the odd sniffle. I give him the Abidec lemon flavoured syrup with Omega 3. It smells awful but he seems to really like having it on a spoon! It is really expensive though.

It has never occurred to me to give any.

I don't give any - DS is good with eating a balanced diet. If he went off fruit and veg I might reconsider.

Baby has the abidec that comes with the syringe (orange flavour) and toddler has the fruity lemon abidec (given normally with spoon). I give it because I tend to catch every cold/flu etc going around and didn't want it to be going back and forth with them. Toddler has a very varied diet but its like an extra defence. When she is ill, I also give children's tonic. I tend to find she doesn't get ill that often and when she does, it doesn't last very long. Probably all in my head but hey ho!

Boots were offering vitamins on 3 for 2 offers a couple of weeks ago, they might still be doing it.

Don't give any... he eats like a horse, still BFs at night, runs around outside and seems perfectly alert and fine. I don't see the point.

I've always given my DC's vitsa - and good food.

We've beeun using the Well Kid syrup for a while now. IIRC it doesn't have 100% RDA of anything, but a bit of everything. Its the only one I've found that has iron and vits.

ooh the wellkid stuff looks good, I have been giving ds follow on milk for the iron, but might see if that would be ok instead.
