Travel high chair

Hi

I put this in 'weaning' but it seems quiet over there!

We are looking at travel booster high chairs and wondered if you had any advice or recommendations?

We like the look of this and although this looks good it doesn't actually make the baby any higher up on the seat. Plus neither have trays! Is that necessary?!

erm... I use a bumbo with my 5 month old... It has a tray and is quite sterdy. You could put it on the table and it would be quite safe although I obviously wouldn't leave the table.

It depends how big your LO is as apparently they can fit in there up to 18mo but I personally doubt it...

Thanks, we have a bumbo, but we're thinking more of a highchair that we can take out and about with us and on holiday.

Depends how much space you have?

We use a totseat for travel which is great as it rolls up nice and small to fit in the nappy bag.

Our usual home high chair is actually a travel one, the fisher price booster which is brilliant. It's lightwieght, easy to clean and you can use it with a tray or up to the table. It's fine to chuck in the car for trips away but it's too bulky to carry round town on shopping trips. Our 14 month old has been in it since about 7 months.

We looked at the totseat too, very similar to the gro-bag version. But we wondered about the fact that the baby isn't actually any higher on the chair so surely they can't reach the table and there's no tray so......

We have a highchair for at home, like I sao it's only or out and about and holidays we're looking for.

Yes you're right, they can't reach the table and the lack of tray is a pain as they get older. But most places have highchairs and I just have the totseat for emergencies. Used it a lot more when DS was younger.

You can put a pillow or two underneath it to rise them up, but you're more likely to find a highchair than a pillow when out and about!

which attachs to the table - we still use it at home for our nearly three year old. I can't recommend it highly enough - easy to transport, easy to use, baby/child is at the same level as everyone else. Brilliant product.

I don't think I actually ever found a place without a highchair - but we have the fisher price one and I agree it's great. It's been used as DS' main highchair ever since we started weaning.

Thanks Curwy I've seen those in Wagamamas and love the design. Do they not mark the table though? I'd love it if they came in a bag, as some of the reviewers said on the website you posted!

Bertie I know most places have highchair that's why it has to be a cheap one, as it's a 'just in case'. We're also going on holiday this year and would find it handy for the house we're staying in and out and about then and we are possibly going to Thailand soon so thought it would be helpful then too! Plus at my parents we will need one. They have a highchair but there are 2 babies in the family now so still need another one!

it's from mothercare, it comes with a table but can be used without one as a booster. we took it camping as it's quite solid.

The Phil and Teds one is ace and hasn't marked any tables yet. It fits in a standard supermarket carrier or under a small Maclaren buggy. It only works on fairly weighty tables though - no good on flimsy aluminium cafe tables.

If your child is a wriggler I'd avoid the totseat and grobag doodads, DD was capable of escaping both of those in inventive and dangerous ways.

We have the first one you linked to. It's just the right height fir the average table and chair. Have never wished I had one with tray, it's just not been necessary. Worth it IMO.

The Phil and Teds one has not marked a table that we have used it on, either our own or when we have been in holiday properties/in restaurants etc. - and we have had it for a couple of years. DS loves it as he is at the same level as us at mealtimes.

We have the Phil and Teds and it is good, but unfortunately it did mark our friends' (nice) dining table. Luckily they didn't mind in the slightest, they just asked us not to use it on the table again, so now when we go and stay we take the legs off our Antilop and stick that in the car. The Phil and Teds is great to keep in the boot of the car but just don't use it on a really good table! And don't be tempted to use it on top of table mats or tablecloths as people have several times done in a helpful way, and our friends who have got one do with theirs - it really isn't safe.

PolarGear do one that looks a bit like a laptop when folded. Was only about £15 from Argos or Boots. We take it everywhere. The cotton slingy ones are rubbish. On phone so can't do link sorry but if you google you will find it.

Hi,

We've got the baby polar gear one, and have been happy with it - great for going to stay with relatives / caravan holidays etc - apart from my sister who only has stools and sofas, and a caravan we went to which onyl had stolls and deck chairs (whihc were too low for the table!). I'd recommend it though.
