Sleeping bags or duvet for 1 year old?

My DS turned one this week. He has always happily slept in baby sleeping bags, but he will shortly outgrow his 6-18 month bags and I'm wondering what to buy next. I know you can get 18-36 month bags, though not in the shop in town which was my previous source of them - any tips for where to buy nice ones cheaply? I found in the previous sizes we needed two 1.5 tog bags for spring/summer, two 2.5 tog ones for winter, and we also bough a 0.5 tog bag during the recent heatwave. That gets expensive... So we wondered whether to buy a cot-sized duvet now that he is one? The problem there is that he'll probably only be in a cot for another year at most, so that might be a bit of a waste, plus he crawls round his cot in the night so might well wake up cold. Sleeping bags are good because they go with him, and perhaps might also stop him climbing (though he can stand up in the cot in them).

Any advice?

with ds, we changed him to duvet around 12m. the sleeping bag did not stop him climbing, just made it so much more dangerous.
dd changed to duvet/blanket much earlier, she got her feet tangled and woke up due to it.

We did the sleeping bags till dd1 went into a bed. She wouldn't sleep without them - although she did learn to undo them when she wanted to get up in the mornings!

We did sleeping bags till DD was gone 2. They were brilliant and I will be using them again.

Dd is 18mo and we're still using sleeping bags as they are so easy to use and no worries about her kicking off duvets and gettign cold especially as she's a wriggler in her sleep.

I've just bought some 18-36 month ones on here in the for sale/wanted bit and although used were in excellent condition and much cheaper than buying new and I got a couple of different togs as the seller was having a clear out.

It might be worth you putting a wanted post up to see if anyone has any for sale - there's a section for baby sleeping bags but the children's clothes for sale topic is usually busier.

Cool, thanks. You've convinced me to stick with sleeping bags and I've just been bidding on some on eBay! I always see them second hand when I don't need any - he's not yet outgrown the current ones so I have time to look around this time.

Daughter is 2 and a half and still ends up all over the bed at night so is still in a sleeping bag. We brought the proper "gro bag" ones but from ebay usually. Sold some of them on again at nct sales so got some of the money back but most of them are well and truly used! I love them :) I'm not quite sure what we will do when she grows out of these ones (presumably in 6 months!)
