help with first shoes

My dd is 13 months and has just started to walk. I've just bought her some light trainers for when she is walking outside, but I'm now not sure I've got it right for her. They fit her perfectly with a small gap at the end, but, because of this, I know they won't last long at all. Also, I'm worried that they may start to get tight in a couple of weeks.

Should I take them back and buy the bigger size? I was worried about getting them too big and her tripping over in them because she's not been walking for long. Is it best to get them to fit and just be prepared to keep buying more as she grows? Or to buy them a bit big and she can have them for longer?

As you can tell, she's my first and I don't want to do the wrong thing. Reading this back, I think I may be making a fuss about nothing, but if anyone has any thoughts, it would really help. Thanks

Did you get her feet measured? They usually check the fit there and then in the shop.

Didn't the shoe shop measure his feet?

Trainers might be a bit heavy for her feet yet, there's also not much negotiation on the size. Both of mine went to clarkes for their first shoes. The measurement is a bit more precise eg she might be a size 3/ 3 1/2 but her foot might be slimmer or wider and they can give you the right shoe for her foot. The only thing is they can be expensive but now is the right time to shop because of the sales ( I got some for my dd last week for £12) mothercare also do their version of first walkers now. My dd is 18 months and just got her first pair of converse now after being able to walk since 10 months. I'm not sure if she would have been able to walk in them that soon. Hope that's helpful Smile

I'd go to clarks... have their feet measured exactly and buy some 'cruisers' - they recommend these light weight shoes if they can't take say more than 10 steps on their own... they have a really light sole.

I think you need to be prepared to buy new shoes regularly, but if in good condition, there's always someone on ebay willing to pay a few quid so every bit helps... Grin

I took my DD who is 14months 2 Clarks yesterday 4 the 1st time.
They were fab Grin they measured her feet & brought out numerous styles of shoes 2 try on & took a photo 4me2 keep of her with her new shoes on Smile
I love shoes Wink so I did spend quite a bit in there Blush
They recommended 2 go back in after 8 weeks- 2c if her feet have grown further.
The shoes in there are great quality & will last longer than the types I have bought in next/mothercare
Def worth a try Smile
