I VERY stupidly didn't think to put sunlotion on my 1 year old today as it was very overcast and now he has a burnt face! I feel so bloody awful I feel sick.
I put some aloe vera gel on it (almost pure) and then read that breast milk can help so have put some of that on it instead. What do you think would be best? I'm also making sure he stays cool and hydrated.
Does anybody else have any tips please?
ARRGGHHH HIS POOR LITTLE FACE!

ps. i'm aware of the irony of my username Blush

Oh dear - poor you and poor baby - well, its done now, don't beat yourself up too much. Keep him hydrated and cool, it will go down and you can look on it as a lesson learnt.

it's easily done
dd2 was fully covered the other day, but her sleeve got pushed up when she was rolling around on the grass, and she got a tiny patch of sunburn. she has (mild) eczema so we slathered on lots of her emollient. TBH i don't even think she noticed as she didn't seem in any discomfort.

Aloe Vera sounds good. I've heard tomato juice helps, too.

Don't be too hard on yourself. My daughter once got very burned legs on a Spanish beach--she was in an UV suit but I hadn't noticed that as she jumped over the waves it was riding up a centimetre each jump. She had red stripes on each thigh and I felt dreadful. But these things happen.

Same thing happened to my dd Abra1d! Her shorts had ridden
Up on one side on holiday in Majorca this month. She had factor 50 on test of her legs and we were in and out of the sea... Back to apartment and she had one bright red thigh on one side. I felt awful! I used a combo of savlon and aftersun! It went after a couple of days and is now a brown strip on an otherwise very White leg! Don't beat yourself up, these things happen.

natural yogurt also supposed to be good and soothing if you have any in fridge

I feel better hearing this, CharlieBoo. You think you've got everything covered (literally) and then you're caught out.

OP you were unlucky. It was very odd weather today. I didn't put sun cream on my ds and he played out for 4 hours and was fine. But my dh got burnt. I find Boots own brand aftersun gel is very effective on sun burn.

Olive oil is good, too (proven to help reduce the skin damage, I think).
Don't feel too bad, most of it do it once in a while. 9yo DD has burn shoulders from yesterday (she put on her own cream & I didn't double check). I got red on my chest, too.
At least all little people were cooperative about cream going on today.

Did she burn blisters? Look carefully, sometimes they are v small, size of pinheads.

I would use Bepanthen nappy cream. The active ingredient is dexpanthenol, wich is basically provitamin b5 , help with skin healing. My sister has albinism, blonde and blue eyed, burnt blisters the size of saucers on her shoulders and back once when she was v little (Albinism diagnosed afterwards), no scars with Bepathen and neat aloe vera (my mum have it growing in the garden esp for burns). Calpol for pain and keep her very well hydrated. Good luck!

My dc came home from their Dad's sunburnt on their shoulders yesterday, I was not best pleased with him! First time they have ever been at all red, and they are 8 & 10! This thread is making me think I shouldn't go oo mental at him! Grin

Anyway, I used sudocreme as it's the only thing we have, but I think it's fabulous stuff anyway.

Yes, Bepanthen should be good- it works very well on nappy rash.

Breastmilk sounds like a great thing to put on it:

Aloe vera is a good idea too.
