DS10 eating loads and getting puppy fat?

DS10 yrs wants to eat what I would think was loads for a 10yr old child - probably as much or a bit more than me. If I let him eat as much as he wants for main meals then he gains some puppy fat - he is normally average/athletic build.

Is it normal for 10yr old boys to need to eat this much or is he just enjoying eating?

Is the puppy fat thing a pre adolescent thing in boys?

I have been limiting his food intake just a little due to the puppy fat thing, but I notice recently that he is also more inclined to fly off the handle about things lately and wondered if he wasnt getting enough to eat at this stage in his life?

His calorie needs are the same as yours if you are female and average.

you should be giving 1970 calories per day

wow thank you for the link - he is quite active and close to 11 yrs at which time his intake would be a whopping 2200!!!

So you reckon increase the calories, even if he carries a little more weight? I always assumed extra weight meant excess calories?

my nephew did this - was quite well padded from 10-11. his height has now caught up and at 13 he is lanky again.

Does he get much exercise? I think as long as you can keep that going - encourage football, or make sure some part of the weekend is active, swimming whatever - then don't worry about the puppy fat. A lot of boys do carry some, and then when puberty kicks in and the growth really takes off it just goes. But do keep the exercise up.
