I've just asked my dcs to clear up their mess. Just bits of paper, nothing too taxing and they will never do anything I ask for the sake of it. There always has be the promise of a reward or the threat of taking away the reward.

Does anyone's dc do the things you ask of them without the need for reward etc?

how old?

Mine do, though often complain which drives me mad. Getting better at it.

Threaten away......

Mine now have a job every week. They choose 1 from a list of say 5. 1 is helping with dinner, another pairing up socks and putting their clothes away etc. They do this as well as being asked to unload dishwasher, help straighten sitting room, lay table etc. Mine are big moaners when it comes to helping. Now, if they moan, they automatically get a 2nd job.

They have embraced the weekly job quite well. If they put laundry in basket and do their job they get screen time next day. Dirty sock on floor - no screen. No discussion.

mine are 7, 9 & 11. I regret not sitting on them sooner.

Start as you mean to go on. Although you may still have to sit on them as my experience shows.
