Or when it just goes quiet in general, and you get that sudden little lurch in the pit of your stomach when you realise that it has been quiet for ages, and you dread having to get up and wander off to look for them and discover what they've done....

Mine came in the other night when she was supposed to be in bed telling me she had found the cream and the baby powder. Utter carnage doesn't begin to describe the mess.
