how very very odd
where did you find dd?

Report
poppyh · 01/08/2005 14:15

This all sounds very fishy.Perhaps she felt the need to tell porkies to her friend about 25 yr old?

katierocket · 01/08/2005 14:16

doesn't explain the number though poppy

Sounds like some sicko on the trams is chatting up young girls, getting to them, making them think he's into them and then giving out a false phone number that happens to be the chap your DH rang.
Your DD needs to be REALLY, REALLY careful about giving her number out to strangers or even talking to them. He could pass on her phone details to anyone - paedophiles etc.

do you think is was just a random number nad the two girls made the whole story up and this older chap just happenend to be on the end of the phone?

Report
BarefootMama · 01/08/2005 14:18

odd - you may have to do some severe bribing to REALLY get to the bottom of this....

katierocket · 01/08/2005 14:18

but there were 33 calls to this guy's number? the number that turned out to be the guy 500 miles away?

Report
poppyh · 01/08/2005 14:19

Suxywong Thats what i was thinking.Only because its more disturbing to think to any other explanations.

If your daughter tried to contact this guy 33 times, you may need a talk even if he did give her the wrong number...

Report
WigWamBam · 01/08/2005 14:21

If there's no record of him calling her, then maybe she's been dialling random numbers - some young woman did that to my sister's dp once looking for someone to flirt with and chat to.

Report
katierocket · 01/08/2005 14:23

but didn't ggglimpopo say "There are 33 registered calls to him on her phone"

why would she dial it 33 times if it was the older guy living 500 miles away who knew nothing about it?
possibly the weirdo on the train (if indeed there was a weirdo on the train) did just give out a random number that happened to be this guys and DD just keep ringing it to see if he would answer? he did say that he didn't use his mobile much.

I would report it and let the police sort it out.
you havent met the man 500 miles away..he could really live 500yards away.
I can tekk you I live in new York.....but I dont!!!

i would say to dd " i called the mobile number in your phone for that guy - the one you have called 33 times and i spoke to the man who answered the phone about this situation. (its true, no need to tell her what was said!) i want to hear everything from your point of view. if what you tell me does not match what this man has told me, i will take away your phone'"

a bluff! that way, if the guy lied to you, she might tell you the truth, thinking you already know and fearing the loss of her mobile. and if she just left 33 messages but got no call back, then you know he is probably telling the truth. you will also know if the guy she met on the train is calling her (maybe number withheld)
