In a Maths Mechanics A-level exam this morning...

...out of 42 students, seven were left-handed. I think the average is 9-11%, which should mean 4 in a group this size - I thought lefties were supposed to be artistic!

(There were also 7 girls but the rest were right-handed boys so the majority fitted the stereotype )

DS1 is left handed & dyspraxic & doing Maths A level

Tabs Fri 24-Jun-05 19:23:39

Nooooooooo - we left handers aren't artistic - we're logical and mathematical - it's the right side of the brain that does arty farty, and right handed people who turn out that way.

I'm a right handed girl and I did maths mechanics A level. Not that many of us though, it has to be said.

Right brain rules left side though, I thought, Tabs?

The girls were all right-handed, Tamum. (God, invigilating is boring!)

Still not played 'paper wars' then???

Janh Fri 24-Jun-05 19:58:27

Have discovered I'm even less competitive than I thought, hmb - the woman I was on with today dived towards any raised hand, and I let her

V disappointing this afternoon, they gave us exactly the right number of papers for Biology (a first) so we were prevented from finding out precisely how ignorant we are. (The maths mechanics was just gibberish, frankly. What is a lamina?)

happymerryberries Fri 24-Jun-05 20:17:46

buggered if i know!

Worsed paper for me so far were te russian ones. Yawn! Couldn't even understand the questiosn!

tamum Fri 24-Jun-05 20:20:01

Dunno, guv, never had laminas (laminae?) in my day

SenoraPostrophe Fri 24-Jun-05 20:29:55

my brothers are both left handed and both quite science-y (though one should really have gone into arts - he thinks it's for wimps).

I'm right handed and missed my A level mechanics exam because i thought it was in the afternoon.

Does that help clear things up?

he he, a lamina is something you are allowed to forget about at our advanced age, unless you have the misfortune to be a teacher or write civil engineering programs!

Tabs Fri 24-Jun-05 20:43:39

Well just asked my DH, and his theory is that the right side of my brain is fully occupied controlling stuff like actually moving my arms, thus leaving the left side to do 'brainy' type things!

Make any sense to anyone?

No, thought not .

Nightynight Fri 24-Jun-05 20:48:37

Does that mean that men in the pub need to use half of their entire brain power to lift a pint?

Janh Fri 24-Jun-05 20:49:10

All of it, nn
