If you receive DLA or Attendance Allowance, or know anyone who benefits from these allowances PLEASE read this

Currently, the Government are preparing a Green Paper, and planning consultation groups with a view to stopping payment of these allowances, and transferring the money to Social Services, who would then administer the funds, according to THEIR view of what a disabled person might need.

I think most people who are in receipt of these benefits know how best to use the money for their needs. Many who have dealt with SS also know how difficult it is to get the services really needed from that route.

Please take a look at this link, and sign up to the protest campaign to help stop this process. Please.

"How come this hasn't been in the papers etc?"

I don't know, I guess it's just been submerged by the matters in the economy etc.

And TBH disabled issues don't generally feature highly in the priorities of the National press, do they?

I'm going to bump this as needed over the next few days.

Link to the green paper.

Have you been in touch with your MP about the proposals?

As I understand it, the question for DLA is over the care component rather than the mobility component?

Do you know if Carers UKhave been engaged on this?

hmmm that will be the same social servies that say to people yes you're entitled to 24/7 care but we can only afford to fund 35 hours per week for you when I'm sober I'll be back to read through this lot.

I'm not even "disabled" and I'm bloomin fuming about it!

Blimey, that's very strange indeed. The whole point of personal budgets for stuff funded by the state was - apparently - to give people in receipt of services more control. How on earth does taking money out of their wallets do that?

edam, it doesn't at all, but that isn't the point. I strongly suspect the point is that the government needs to find ways to drastically cut expenditure over the next few years, and they see this as a way to do that.

My worry is that any incoming Govt are going to inherit the our current severe economic problems, and may think this is a good idea.

We must try to quash this idea by any means we can

herbietea thanks, I'm planning to try to reach my MP soon about this too, and contact all parties' ministers for disabaled issues.
