We have a skip on our drive and a builder is knocking down the chimney breast in my lounge so all the rubbish is in the skip. It is our plan (when the plastering is finished)to take up the said lounge carpet and drop it on the skip (as we've paid for it anyway). Ive just come back in and he's dumped his son's 2 armchairs on MY skip!

well tell him to take them off again!
our builders did this, but luckily (for them) there was more than enough room in the skip anyway, so it didn't cause problems

You could ask who's going to pay for another skip now that his chairs have robbed all the space?

It is your skip as you've paid for it. Tell the builder that you are planning to put your lounge carpet in the skip and that he has the choice of either removing the chairs, or disposing of the carpet for you.

oh dear - dh is not happy at all. The builder told me yesterday that now the chimney has been removed the walls either side are slightly different depths so plastering it as a whole wall to one depth would be more - £180 more in fact!! The skirting board and coving would be cock eyed because of this too (although we think he's not planning on fitting this anyway). Anyway dh came home and was speaking to the builder who told him that the Rover workers got what they deserved and car workers are overpaid for what they do, and the Land Rover lot will be following the Rover workers soon!!! bearing in mind dh works at LR and was in fact wearing his LR poloshirt at the time! Anyway dh thinks he's a w and has decided to get all the plastering done by someone else .... and Ive got to tell him this morning and he's the FIL of a mum at school!!! aarrggghhh

Not to excuse the insult of your dh, but as far as the plastering goes, he is correct that there is quite a bit of extra work involved in making it all flush. However, he should have seen it coming and warned you in advance as it is not unusual for that to happen.
