I'm sure this question will have been answered here somewhere before but I've done a search and I can't find it.

Where can i buy a star chart from? Or should I be making one myself?

I just created a chart in Word and printed it out. Bought lots of sticky shapes from WHSmiths I think. My chart just had 30 numbered boxes on it and when all the boxes were filled, DS1 got a treat.

McKenzie - I definitely recommend DIY - that way you can tailor them to suit. If you have the same one up month in month out, they will get bored of it. We use star charts loads, but try not to have them back-to-back, and design them in different ways to maintain the novelty ... 4 yrs on it still works for us!

Mine is DIY but nothing fancy. Ds doesn't notice or care. I just handwrote mine using 2 different coloured markers, and drew the grid lines with the side of a magazine.

One thing I find useful is to have categories. Our chart has about 9 different ones like 'eats well,' 'is nice to baby sister,' 'cooperates in the morning,' 'is well-behaved in school.' Etc etc. This way he can work on specfic things which are sources of conflict.

When he gets 10 stars per category he gets a small pressie, usually something like an inexpensive book. To him, a pressie is a pressie--I don't go all out. It's just a symbol, really.

thanks for all the tips. I shall have a go at making one, perhaps after a sneaky look at the Mothercare one though for some ideas.
