I can understand (and quite like!) the latin 'p.s' and other latin words/abbreviations, but why do we use an abbreviation of a french term as a popular ending to an invite?
Why not just 'Please reply'?
R.S.V.P. seems less terse, but how or when did it become usual to use it?
