"Toy" Credit Card - Bad Idea? :)

Okay, I'm probably being daft. I can cope with being told that.

Got some credit card junk mail with a fake plastic card enclosed. Was thinking of giving it to ds1 as he already plays with "toy" money (old foreign currency) then suddenly wondered whether it was giving him a bad message about debt

Then again, he sees me using a switch card all the time...

... I should just give it to him, shouldn't I?

Well my DD (nearly 3) has a plastic toy credit card - it came with some play money from ELC. She sees me using my credit card daily (we use it for every day expenses and pay it off every month) and wants to copy. As tey get older you can introduce the idea of paying bills off - bt they are only little, and just want to copy mummy and daddy.

Yes, just give it to him!

You can always tell him it isn't a credit card, it's a switch card. And the money comes straight out of his bank account so he has to make sure he has enough in there because if he has an overdaft he'll get charged exhorbitant fees

DS has been sweeping one at a toy in nursery since he was 18m old, he beeps when he does it . However, he uses the thing to inset the PIN as a telephone so I guess he is still unclear of credit cards true meaning...

Twig - I think dh follows your school of thought - he chucked it in the bin this morning, not realising ds1 was playing with it... OHHHHHHHH the meltdown!!

(it was fished back out and washed carefully).
