doing a 'we got planning' dance..........

just checked on our planning application online, and it is now showing 'granted'.

of course, we have yet to get the official letter so there may be some considerations we have to adhere to......

but

I can actually start dreaming of my futility room now, and all the shelving for books that I will have room for, and the window seats bu the doors going into the garden, and the quiet time we will have from the children as we will have two seperate areas to relax in, and the storage for board games, oooooh, the room to play board game, the fact that we will have a room for people to sleep if they want to stay over......

oooh, and breathe

I am excited, can ya tell, can ya, can ya

LOL at futility room - I only hope that doesn't come back to haunt you in the coming months of building work!

Oh and the kids hunt you down to annoy you (we found this out after a bloody expensive extension)

But congrats!

I was kind of hoping for some adult-time. they really hunt you down???

I am NOT looking forward to the mess, but at least I won;t have builders to bitch about......DH is a builder and so he and his dad (also a builder) are doing it. I can threaten lots seeing as I am married to one, and DIL of other.

we went to the planning dept on our local council page, you then get to search for planning applications by road, and voila.....

well, sounds easy, it did take me a few mins the first time I tried. I saved it into favourites tho for ease the next time

Yeah, you need a big lock on the doors, ideally with soundproofing so you can't hear the mewling sounds your kids make when they run headlong into the locked door .

Oh god, you'll have to live with the person making pathetic excuses - at least you can fire builders normally if they really piss you off. You poor thing!

DO NOT talk to me about planning (who DID approve the plans our architect submitted on his 3rd attempt, but which unfortunately I had never seen! ) and are now refusing to give over 18" which is going to mean me deconstructing and rebuilding my bathroom dormer at the bargain price of £3000, even though the actual build has NOTHING to do with the bathroom. Sigh.

So now, the builders have started (don't they just love knocking things down?!), but we had to call it all to a halt to find out what planning have planned for the house I will live in for the rest of my life (hopefully). And now we have to knock down bits we didn't actually want to change, which have been there for over 50 years, because planning have decided they would look better "a bit lower"

OMG joolyjoo.

our 'technically', should be easy. we are replacing a crap lean-to with a decent conservatory and side extension that will incude a futility room just for me.

and then making our current huge lounge/diner into a seperate lounge and knicking the dining room into the kitchen to make a huge kitchen/diner instead.

will help with heating costs........our lounge is currently 26ft x 18ft, and then goes into the diner which is 10 x 10ft on the side. is far too big to keep warm enough.

Wow- it sounds fab! We are just trying to create another bedroom for ds in our eaves space (where we already have 2 other bedrooms) We overlook noone, all the houses in our street are different, but planning decided our extra bedroom was too "dominant" (over what?!)

Of course, mentioned it to an acquaintance today, who said "Oh, you should have told me- I was head of planning until last year! I could have pointed you in the right direction..." Sigh. And this is AFTER I argued with them about the timber cladding they had planned for our house, unbeknown to me! Tbf, I think our architect is a lot to blame- might have been nice if he'd showed US the plans before submitting them, but I fear that is a fight for another day

oh how utterly irritating when that happens (the person telling you after the event how helpful they could have been)

make you want to bang them hard against something until they agree to go back and sort it for you doesnt it.....

Amen to that! This whole job seems to consist of people telling me AFTERWARDS how they could have helped me...my builder: "you should have got in touch with me- I know aguy who would have done you DECENT plans at a fraction of what you paid..."

I had to restrain myself from shouting, "Actually, we DID try to get in touch with you beforehand, and left 2 messages, to which you didn't deign to reply "

Oh well, I think no matter how well you plan, it never goes exactly as planned, does it? (at least, that is what I am telling myself, as I watch next years hard-saved for holiday vanishing in a puff of rubble....)

well......I am hoping beyond hope that as DH is the one doing all this, and he works with people 'in the trade' to do the stuff he can;t do (plumbing and electrics), than ours will be fairly calm (ish).

I can at least threaten him with lack of use of his manly bits tho
