..do fish go to sleep does anyone know?Because if not I think its dead!I have been feeding them whilst they are away but think now that I might not have given them enough and its starved to death

Would a slumbering fish respond be to being poked with a tomato cane as a rule?

Am I right in thinking that coi karp cost about a zillion quid?

Oops! We have about 20 fish in our pond including koi and so far none of them have died despite lots of attempts. We inherited the fish from the previous owners of our house and didn't know what we were doing - we once accidently turned off the pump before going on holiday but they were still fine when we got back.

If the fish really is dead I doubt it would be due to underfeeding - we've often left ours and gone on holiday leaving them with a "fishcake" or two. They've always been fine.

"Fish" it out (pun intended) with a net and bin it if it is dead.

The owners will think a heron/cat or other predator made off with it.

It's possible it overate - I've heard that if you overfeed fish they go into a sort of hibernating state, which makes them look like theyre dead. A 'food coma' if you like. I don't know if this applies to Koi Carp though.

Have just been out to have another look. Its definately dead.Unless fish sleep on their sides
They are coming back today.Do I a)feign innocence and pretend I hadnt nocticed?B)get it out and get rid of it and hope they dont notice? (B has the added disadvantage that I will have to touch the ugly blighter-its got a very unfortunate face on it)They are quite obsessed by their fish and I fear what will happen when I tell them..

What did you do Scootini ?

Did it break their little fish-loving hearts ?

If you had been under/over feeding it then surely the other fish would have suffered the same fate...perhaps it was just his/her time to go to fishy heaven?

I would just tell them.
