How to get a wheelie bin in the black market?

We inherited an unwheeled bin from the previous owners of this house, but as we needed to repair a door before being able to use a wheelie bin I have postponing getting the thing. Well, I finally rang the council today to ask if I could have one, or if I needed to buy it where could I get one. And I have been told I can't have one, when I mentioned about other neighbours having one they told me it was on medical grounds (honestly, the only medical grounds I see is that they have a doctor in their family, but anyways) and then she suggested me to use a wheel barrow instead , how did she got to think I could have a wheel barrow I don't have a clue. But in a way I am surprised about not being able to get one. The council give us a supply of refuse sacks every month and I guess it would be cheaper and easier for their staff if they can wheel a wheelie to the truck rather than carry everything by hand.

Thinking that the ownership of wheelie bins in my street is so randomly distributed, I think that the apearance of an extra wheelie bin could be hardly noticed, so... does anybody know of a clandestine supplier of wheelie bins?

Oooh - the council left us two. And they were threatening to supply a third! Was thinking of putting it on e-bay. Postage would be a fortune though.

Get one of your wheeliebinned neighbours to ring up and say thiers has been nicked and could they have a replacement please? And then you have it...failing that nick one of the neighbours and plead innocent when they ask why you have thiers

gingerbear, love the flowers but I believe that the wheelie bin would look too alive in my neglected garden.

Thanks for the link Treacletart, I'm just waiting for tomorrow when my neighbours take out their wheelie bins to see if there are some green ones, I can't imagine the frustration of my green whelie bin being discriminated and left behind because it was not a council one (usually black), and talking about colour, I have seen some village whose wheelie bins had a lovely shade of purple, if it had not been for the impracticalities of transporting a used wheelie bin in a clean car I could have been very tempted to nick it

Be a bit careful. We paid £15.00 for a 2nd hand wheelie bin only to find it wasn't compatible with the refuse trucks here so check it out before you pay!

Oh dear!, how do I check that (the woman in the phone suggested I didn't have the right to have one so I guss she won't be willing to volunteer that info on the phone. I guess I will need to stalk those neighbour's whelie bins tomorrow.

Yes basically look at the style they are. Different trucks have different equipment for loading.

If you don't have the right to one, does that mean the council have a list of addresses to collect from? You might end up shelling out cash for a bin that doesn't get emptied.

I don't think so as there are some neighbours from the back street that is very narrow that take their bins out to my street (they get also the council bags). BEsides, the poor guys have already enough work to pick up bags and bins, and run behind the truck as to be checking whose wheelie bin is it. I guess the lack of general use of wheelie bins is because the street is full of victorian terraces that don't have access to the back from the front, more than any other reason.
