Three weeks ago we were flooded. We were told we needed to move out for six months. There were no rental properties available. We were then told that once the plaster is off, it will take between 2 and 6 weeks to dry out and then we can start refitting.
So we got temporary holiday accommodation till November, we've lined up builders, kitchen fitters etc ready to move in record time. Today the drying company comes round and says: actually no, it will take at least 6 MONTHS to dry out - and that's before we can even start refitting.
Exactly one year ago today we moved into this house. I've only just unpacked the last box and now I need to pack up again, find somewhere to live, move my children again, move my home-based business again - and by the way, we have no furniture left so we need to buy everything we need before we can move in somewhere as all the rentals houses are unfurnished. Did I mention that I have my sister and her children coming in from NZ to stay for Christmas plus all my inlaws as my MIL turns 80 on Xmas day. Not sure what to do about that now.
I could scream, scream, scream.
Then in less than a year's time, just as the kids are settling in, we'll get to pack up again and move back into our house and unpack all over again. Doing all this is hard. Doing this when you're trying to run a business that relies on having a phone/internet connection and some kind of stability is nigh on impossible.
At least the insurance company pays for it all. But it hardly feels like much of a win right now.
