Poor you migraines are the worst.
If it's a 'proper' migraine paracetamol probably won't do much.
Ibuprofen might help. Sleep is the real success
Do you have a cool pack? Put it on the back of your neck. A bag of frozen peas would do in a pinch but wrap in a cloth first.
I find Vicks under my nostrils and on my temples helps as does darkness and avoiding lights/noise/ phones
Good luck

If you're vomiting I'm not sure any of my suggestions will be any good. In which case you will have to just try and sleep it off.
But, I would recommend Coca Cola (red, original full sugar variety), aspirin (dispersible ideally), cold flannel draped over your head.

These sometimes help although you sound in deep migraine so maybe too late.
Hope you feel better soon

Gosh, I'm sorry you feel so bad, it sounds awful Thanks

When I have a migraine I find full sugar Coke, chocolate, and ready salted crisps or salted chips really help, but, while I feel nauseous, I rarely throw up so I'm not sure whether it will help.

I hope it passes quickly and you manage some sleep

If you can get to a late night pharmacy (you will need to go in person). You may be able to get imigran (or equivalent). Only thing which touch mine.

Otherwise cold compresses. Disolveable aspirin and full fat coke.

Lloyds Pharmacy have started to sell pink Migraleve tablets again, although it may just be online. They contain a painkiller and anti-sickness drugs.

Without them, I try to eat dry weatabix or something similarly absorbent and take regular, tiny sips of water (not enough to prompt more sick). You will eventually fall asleep and hopefully wake up feeling much better.

If you get regular migraines it would be worth asking your GP to prescribe you Sumatriptan, it's the only thing that works for me. Not much use right now, sorry, but could help in the future. Hope it passes soon!

I get regular migraines and the only thing that helps is sumatriptan. I take a 50mg tablet with 2 paracetamol and most of the time it will shift it. If not you can take another sumatriptan 2 hours later.
I know that's not much help to you right now, sorry, but worth asking your doctor for some for in future if you suffer from them a lot.

Hope it shifts for you soon, they are absolutely awful aren't they.

Do you have any Co-codamol?

Report
Sunshinelollipops1 · 03/09/2019 22:29

You can get (or other Triptans) over the counter now. It’s the 50 mg (many doctors prescribe 100 mg). You have to fill in a questionnaire and pharmacist has to agree to sell. Useful if you run out of a prescription or find yourself caught short.

Bluetit they are life changing meds!

@NellieTheElephant1 agreed. Literally gave me my life back (I know sounds dramatic but I was literally bed bound for several days per month before being prescribed). I couldn’t work/bring up my children without them.

When I've been this bad with a migraine I've gone to an out of hours doctor - they would give me anti sickness and pain killing injections which would usually start to work quite quickly.

I now have anti-nausea tablets and zomig which seem to keep them under control.

You have my deepest sympathy, at their worst it's no exaggeration to say I wanted to die the pain was so bad.

Hope you feel better soon Thanks

I find also an ice pack on my neck helps Or some of the deep freeze muscle gel.
I also recommend trying 111, I had some great advice and lovely strong painkillers prescribed in one of my worst migraine moments.
Migraines are the worst!

Agreed on 111. I remember one doctor prescribing me tramadol I was in so much pain. They were amazing, but I was as high as a kite!

Ibuprofen work for me, I probably take more than I should but they help knock me out . Bloody awful things.

Caffeine and painkillers. The doc told me that the caffeine restricts the blood vessels that cause the pain. Coke has caffeine in it

Nigella it's the sugar and caffeine both are supposed to help with headaches and migraines.

Report
bathshebaeverbusy · 03/09/2019 22:58

Full sugar coke - raises blows sugar levels and alleviates sickness. the Caffeine in it speeds up the absorption of painkillers.
I take Sumitriptan - it is a game changer,. Failing that, several aspirin at the first sign of migraine and buscopan ( anti sickness tablet) - but if youI leave to too late it is ineffective.
Dark room, sleep, cold compress. you have my sympathy. Mine are defiantly linked to menstural cycle and hormone fluctuations. I find avoiding alcohol helps massively too.

Report
cushioncovers · 03/09/2019 22:58

Agree with others sumatriptan with paracetamol and naproxen gets rid of them for me. The triptans are a life changer.
