Not difficult, but I believe gas ovens have a tendency to cook a little unevenly. Not massively though - and I would have thought a brand new one would do less so.

Hows your back door dilemna anyway?

The back door is no longer a dilemma as we couldn't move the boiler far enough to fit the doors I wanted! So now I have decided to replacw the door with a fully glazed one in wood and that is no problem! Thanks for all your advice Thw door is being fitted monday and then the kitchen so a lot quicker without waiting for planning.

I moved into a house with a gas oven about a year ago, having only ever dealt with electric before. I found the transition quite hard.

The shelf position is really important. If you have it on gas mark 3 then the top of the oven will be quite a bit hotter than that, and the bottom quite a bit cooler. You have to take it into account if you're cooking more than one thing at a time. It's good that it heats up faster though. it also bakes well. It's a nightmare for things that are tall like roast chicken or turkey, because the temperature that the breast meat is at is a lot higher than that for the back and legs. You can get round it by putting it in the other way up and then changing it around.

Horses for courses, but I'd go for electric any time I got a choice.
