What's the best way to sell off old vinyl records?

MIL has just dumped on us two large boxes containing dh's record collection -- mainly early 80s post-punk and new wave, all in pristine condition.

Dh (mercifully) realises that we can't store them indefinitely just in case we might one day get round to buying a turntable, so would like to sell them off and reinvest in CDs.

Does anyone have any ideas? Amazon/ebay? I've sold a bit on amazon before, and once or twice on ebay, but it's a bit of a faff, and there's the problem of posting vinyl albums safely. Or just take them to local 2nd hand record shop, and accept that we'll get peanuts for them?

TIA

Hi Frogs,

if you search the internet, you will find that some record shops pay quite good money for mint condition vinyls, you may evem have some in your area.

Alternatively, i would advertise on Ebay and put a reasonable minimum bid.

It maybe worth your while to research some of the vinyls you have to see if they are worth that little bit more.

I have the original sergeant peppers lonely heart club vinyl, still in original ceelophane as well as elvis pink vinyls that i received when my father died, they are each valued between £200 and £500 pounds and apparantly americans would pay more for them.

Good luck with ehatever you do.

I misread this as being MIL's own record collection and thought, well she's quite cool then Wink

Will have a think/chat with dh and revert.

I note you have kept well well away from the incendiary new education topic(s). So have I.

try Ebay. My DH has sold a few records recently from that sort of era and made good money - one went for £45. you can get heavy cardboard envelopes for posting vinyl. obviously you will need to do your research to find out which ones are in demand and worth putting up for auction, and which ones can go to the local record shop.

Nooooooooooo don't do it!!! There's nothing like vinyl! Buy him a turntable and let him rediscover his lost youth! We've just bought one and are having a major 80s indie revival at home lately!!!
