When not to send DS to nursery?

Hi

Can anyone advise me please as my nursery doesn't seem to have this info anywhere.

My DS has just staretd nursery 2 days a week at 9 months. In 2 weeks he has got a cold, candida nappy rash and a stomach upset which were all doing the rounds. I know that this is part and parcel of sending him to nursery but was wondering when I shouldn't send him. I know if he has a temperature and obviously if he gets something contagious (i.e. conjunctivitus, measles) but is there anything else?

My nursery is by my work which is an hours drive from home so I would prefer to know before I set off rather than when I get there and we get sent home!

Many thanks

Think every nursery has slightly different policy and beyond the obvious things you have mentioned it is hard to predict. My ds's first nursery wouldn't give capol or antibiotics, his second one would so long as it was not the first day of illness. They should (i think ofstd requires them to) have it written down so ask about their illness policy

Hi

I'd definitely ask for their policy. Our nursery will give medicine ONLY if it's prescription medicine, so antibiotics ok but not calpol. And they'll take DS if he has conjunctivitis from the second day of treatment.
Seems that every nursery has a different policy but like WWATT I think they are obliged to have it written down and available to parents.

We don't take poorly children. If they are ill then they should be home.
We also don't take children for the first day of medication, in case of allergic reactions.

We provide a list at my nursery, this info is also stuck on the parents notice board.
Think I should put it in my information leaflet too!
My own baby has been off for the first time shes been there 6 months as shes got conjunctivitus, this is her second day of drops but I kept her home today too. Nothing worse than spreading germs and stuff!

Thanks all. I haven't seen it on the board and I know another mum has no clue either so it definately wasn't included in the info supplied.

I will ask them tomorrow ...
