Does your child's nursery staff have the childen call staff 'Mr/'Mrs/Miss xxx or by their first name?

My child's current nursery uses the first name of the carer to identify themselves. A nursery I have just visited refers to carers as Mr/Mrs/Miss, by other staff, parents and children

Just wondered which you prefer, and why?

Our nursery (I think) has them called Miss XXX with XXX being their first name.

So for example Miss Lisa.

I don't mind at all. After all when they go to school they'll be using Miss/Mrs/Mr XXX

first name at my DS's previous and current nursery.

I prefer it for 2 reasons - firstly I think a first name is usually easier for the tinies to say, and secondly I think when they get a bit older it helps to distinguish the difference in the child's mind between nursery carers, who are supposed to be kind of friends and playing type people, and proper school teachers who are more figures of authority.

Not that they shouldn't respect their nursery carer of course! Just that the relationship is less about discipline etc and more about fun.

The nursery dd is at now they are called by the first name but the last nursery they were at called them miss x (x being surname) and this was only done in the pre-school area not the babies area. The owner felt it was good practice for them starting school. I found it very odd to start with as they had come from nurseries that used forenames but I did get used to it!

I think it's cute. I'm pretty sure that lots of the children may drop the "Miss/Mrs" but I like the idea.

My DS doesn't talk yet hence why I'm not 100% what happens in his room.

first name at the day nursery he used to go to when he was really little, now surname at the nursery school. I think it's fine that way.

DD goes to two different pre-schools and one uses Mrs X and the other uses forenames....she seems OK with it.

When DD1 went to pre-school it depended on the member of staff - the principal was just coming up for retirement and was Mrs LastName, and the other teacher was FirstName. DD1 never commented.

Ds' first nursery they called all the staff 'Miss xxxx' (all were called Miss to make it easier for the tinies). It was really very sweet.

At his current nursery they use fore names

At dd's previous nursery, she called the staff by their first name. At her current nursery, she is expect to use their surnames with the prefix/title "mrs".

I prefer the set up at her current nursery.

Day nursery was first names, except for the elderly parents of the owner (it was their house and the mum did all the cooking) - they were Mr and MrsY.
The pre-school dd2 now goes to is Mrs X - apprpriate as they are teaching staff at a primary school, imo.,

First names (except that the people who come in once a week for organised sports and for music are Mr or Mrs Firstname). I agree with theyoungvisiter, I think.

I am guessing the difference between my DDs two nurserys current and future is that current is nursery day care, and the future one is a nursery school. DO you think? It most certainly has a very school like feel about it, which is not necessarily bad, it just took me a bit by surprise. Dont know why, seeing as they teach french to the 4 YO and Ballet to 3yo +!!

DD's nursery uses first names until the children reach 3 and move to the pre-school whereupon it changes to Miss/Mrs/Mr xxxx.

Some of the carers have moved from the baby rooms to the preschool and so have had both versions used, but the children seem to understand that their carer is called for eg Jane in the baby room and Miss Bloggs in the preschool. DD has certainly has no trouble with it and in a way it has helped her understand that people have different names for different situations, eg she knows I am Mummy but my friends call me Tiger and some poeple call me Mrs Feet but all those names still mean me.

I'm a teacher in a full day care nursery. When I first went there, I was called Mrs XXXXXX but all the nursery workers were called by their first names. Over time, I've just become known by my first name to everyone. I'm fine with it, although it felt a bit strange at first, because my full name was my "professional" name if you see what I mean.

One nursery close to me (now closed down) used auntie xxxx and uncle xxxx with xxxx being first name. Oddest system I've came across. I've always been known by my nickname claire-bear wherever I've worked, nursery or as a nanny.

The pre school my dd goes to calls them Miss Debbie (i.e first names).
