Nursery Obligation to Publish Policies and Procedures

We are having difficulties with our child's nursery, who basically seem to make their own rules up as they go along.

They publish extensive 'Policies and Procedures' on their web-site. BUT in small print below they have added 'This list of policies is not exhaustive, if you would like to see any more, we can email them to you.'

This of course gives them scope to hastily produce new policies in reaction to parent concerns or queries as they arise - a loop-hole they readily exploit.

My question is: is this ethical? or even legal? Are they not required by OFSTED to transparently publish all their policies and procedures?

Any advice much appreciated.

No. There is no obligation to publish policies
But there is a legal requirement to make them available to parents
There are only a handful of policies that they legally have to have but must have many more
They are free to make up their own policies, as long as they fulfill their legal requirements

I agree with Insancerre. Ther are certain policies, such as their safeguarding policy and Anti bullying policy which need to be published, but most others only have to be made available on request.

Nurseries are free to write their own policies and run their setting how they wish. If you disagree with the way that it is run, or with their policies, then you need to decide whether to work with them and seek to change things, compromise and accept things as they are, or move your child to another setting.
