Nursery and potty training

Lo is 2ys old and has been doing really well potty training at home with very few accidents. At nursery it's another story. Lots of accidents and upset, won't even sit on the potty most times. Staff said Lo was miserable because of the accidents and suggested to keep nappies on while they try to still take Lo potty to try. Very little success and most wees/poos at nursery are in nappy. At home we continue nappy free and are ok. What can I do to get Lo out of this situation? I think it's confusing and worry it will cause regression at home? Thanks for your opinions!

You have to accept that home and nursery care very different environments.

I also think it is unfair to expect the nursery to potty train if he isn't ready - and to me he doesn't sound like he is ready.
A good nursery will support you to potty train your child but you can't expect them to have to deal with a child that really isn't ready.
I suggest you keep doing what you are doing at home and send him to nursery in nappies and adl them to sit him on the potty there.
When he has been clean and dry for a week then you can send him in pants to the nursery

Thanks for your replies. I will send lo in nappies that's what I have been doing, I'm not expecting the nursery to do anything extra. I was wondering if there is anything I could do more to help lo feel comfortable in the nursery setting. I think lo is ready because at home we are doing fine going potty, I don't think it's a readiness issue

Not really. I think you have to accept he has to be a bit older to be able to do it at nursery. It is always busy, lots of distractions and staff aren't 1:1 like you are at home. They all eventually get there.

Are the potties very different at nursery, or do they even use teeny tiny toilets?

My DC3 was the most difficult to potty train, and even after being dry at home day and night was having only "accidents" at Kindergarten, even though they asked him regularly (he didn't need asking at home especially, that wasn't especially helpful). I therefore tried taking him to the toilet at KiGa and discovered his issue was with the specific toilets, even though they are teeny, they have no real seat (I think this might be standard for hygiene reasons) so were not nice to sit on (my older 2 went to the same KiGa and had no issues at all with the toilets, so I guess most children don't mind, but DC3 did).

I took our own potty in, with his key worker's blessing, and he used it, first day with no accidents - but then his key worker and I got into trouble as the potty (any potty - Kindergarten is for kids from age 3, so more like preschool) wasn't allowed for hygiene reasons! Typical! :o He was actually better at KiGa once he's used his potty there though, and did eventually use their toilets.

Anyway... maybe he doesn't like their potties/ tiny toilets... Or maybe he's just "too busy" playing... is he 100% at home, or a bit hit and miss?

My DD was like this although older at 3. 3 months on she was still having accidents most days at nursery and sometimes 3 or 4 a day.
We then moved house and she was moved to a child minder. The accidents stopped immediately and she only has the occasional dirty accident when engrossed in an activity. No idea what the problem was.
