Hello,
I'm expecting first baby in October and am just starting to investigate full time nursery and live out nannies. We live in Buckinghamshire. What is the going rate for a full day (8 -6) at nursery and what would you expect to pay a live out nanny for similar or slightly longer hours? One year old baby only.

The nursery my DD goes to charges £52 a day or £230 for a full week for under 2s. That includes all food/ formula and nappies.

My DD's nursery is £61 a day for a part time place (3 days) and we have to provide nappies on top on that. I think a full time place is slightly cheaper, it works out about £55 a day. I think you will find that with one child, nursery will be cheaper.

Nannies look more economical when you have two children - the going rate was about £8 net per hour, and you have to pay tax and NI on top of that which takes it up to around £11 per hour. For a 10 hour day, thats obviously £110 per day.

I pay £37.50 a day (8am to 6pm) or £22.50 for a half day (8am to 1pm or 1pm to 6pm) for an under 2. This includes all meals, snacks, drinks & nappies. I think I would have to provide formula if DD was still bottle fed.
